Some of you may recall reading about the extractor issue I had with my 15-22 in another post on this forum. At the range after several FTFeed and FTE I noticed that my extractor was no longer on the bolt. Gone again, as this extractor was replaced about two weeks earlier at the retailer, Gander Mountain for the same problem. At that time GM took the parts out of a new gun in inventory to fix mine.

Instead of going back to GM I called S&W and got a return shipping label emailed to me. Sent it out on a Monday, and exactly two weeks later got it back.

Yesterday (Wednesday) was the first day I could go to the range and shoot it. I did absolutely nothing to the gun after getting it back from S&W as far as cleaning or anything else. I proceeded to run 300 rounds of Federal Bulk Pack (Wally World) ammo using 11 different magazines thru the rifle. (One can not have too many magazines )

Not one issue. No FTF, FTE or problems of any kind. :D:D:D

This gun is a hoot to shoot when it functions as intended. I do find that if I take my time loading the magazines and tap the end of the mag I am loading on the range bench, my knee, or palm of my hand to ensure the ammo is loaded correctly, that feeding problems are much less likely to occur.

Thanks S&W for the timely turnaround on the fix. And the two free magazines that you sent back with the rifle are much appreciated. :D

One other note, S&W made no mention of the threaded barrel and flash suppressor that was on my rifle. I really did not expect the mod to be an issue, as that in no way made the extractor fail. Had the end of the barrel blown off, I would not have expected S&W to fix it under warranty.

Thats great to hear, took about a month to get mine back, but mine was one of the firsts to get sent back, and the Engineers had to look it over. So because of me, ya'll get your guns back in a couple of weeks, instead of a month, hehehe. Seems like everybody is getting 2 extra mags also, and that is awesome. I only got 1, but thats ok. better than nothing. I use the Federal bulk from walmart too, all have been flawless. The 15-22 is my favorite gun, and a blast to shoot. So cngrads on getting yours back and Most of all...ENJOY AND HAPPY SHOOTING!!!

I read yesterday on another internet forum regarding "S&W share price and company performance" that this new M&P15-22 is a top priority for the company and wants to keep this rifle as "super hot" at retail.

This is a big category for them as buyers of this .22 rifle will probably lead to new purchases of their heavy hitting M&P15's in the future. Glad to hear they are sending out "thank you" mags...super move!

What did they say they did to fix it?

What did they say they did to fix it?

Just had a short note returned with the rifle saying "upgraded to current specs"

They had to have replaced the extractor, as the OE one was gone. I don't know if they did anything to the feed ramp, or the ejector, as they are two other areas of known issues.

On the paperwork i got back with mine, they actually said what they replaced, but since then seems they just say 'upgraded to latest specs'.

Well I just wish somebody could tell me if mine is "upgraded to current specs". I got it from Academy recently and was fresh stock so hopefully it's latest/greatest, but you would think with this many send backs there would be a way by S/N maybe to determine if yours is one of the problem ones.

If you shoot it and it breaks, it most likely is a problem one. :p

It would be nice to know if there is S/N info.

I have an "early" one with over 1000 flawless rounds through it, after I adjusted the ejector. Knock on wood/fingers crossed......

Just put another 125 rounds thru 5 different magazines through my 15-22 at the range Wednesday. All rounds went through flawlessly. :D

Got a bad one!

Bought my M&P 15-22 last Saturday (24 Oct ) and finally got to shoot it this morning. Had several FTF and FTE. Switched to different ammo. After about 10 rounds heard a loud bang with a bright flash and a burst of air pressure to the side of the face.

Looked at the bolt and it was about 1/4 in. open, pulled the handle back and part of the extracter fell out. The casing is still in the chamber and the bottom of the shell is partially ripped off.

Called S&W and they said they will send send the shipping label. Well, thought I would share that info on the 15-22.

Wow.............I just dont know what to say. S&W had better get their act together! I love mine, but now I will aways be worrying if the feedramp will break off/the extractor break off/ or failure to eject?(which I now how to fix).
I wonder if a recall is coming??

That senario is exactly what happened to me when I lost the extractor the first time. Lot of FTF and FTEs then an Out Of Battery boom. Extractor missing and a torn up cartridge casing. At least you should get an extra free magazine or two for your troubles.

Do you recall what brand of ammo you were using when you had your extractor fall out?

Glock, I wonder if the problem starts with the ejector. Maybe it is just a hair off and gets worse as more cartridges are fired. Then as the cartridges get worse and worse in getting ejected, a non properly ejected cartridge gets stuck in the bolt area, gets slammed into a cartridge that is fed into the gun and causes an out of battery discharge. The out of battery discharge then blows off the extractor or the feed ramp. Just a rambling thought.

Sounds possible.

It was Winchester super X. Before that I was using Remington.

Went to the range again yesterday (Sunday). Fired 250 rounds of Federal bulk. Shot at the 100 yard target. Very pleased with the accuracy, especially with Federal bulk.

Had 2 Failure to Feed out of 250 rounds. I believe both were magazine related.

I heard that...the worry part. Up to about 450 rnds only 2 ftf's but I'm still leary. Goin on a trip soon with the girlfriend to the country, if I get out there and the 15-22 pulls this crap I'm going to be PIST, free mags included!! I just might throw it in the friken creek!!!

yeah, couldnt agree more, ive had got about 500rds give or take since getting mine back, a stovepipe here and there ,less than 10. Im sure its in the way i loaded the paticular round. but i still have to cross my fingers when shooting it. Especially like when somebody else wants to try it out, and it does it to them, sure dont make ya feel to good about it.
