Got this M&P 15, what isit?

I'm not familiar with these models. Bought this used. I think it is a Sport I.

There is no Sport 1. There's the Sport and the Sport 2.

Is it supposed to say "Sport"? It says M&P 15.

I remember on my Colt it said "Sporter", + AR-15.

It's an original Sport - the only S&W M&P15 with no dust cover. The dust cover is really not needed, though.

No. They are all labeled simply M&P 15.

I think the 1/8 twist barrel is a +. From what I've heard, they all weren't like that.

The Sport had a few rolling changes before the Sport 2 came out.

The very first Sport came with the 1:8 5R barrel, and a M16A2 style rear sight that was like a chopped carry handle. Similar to this.

Then they changed from the above rear sight to a Magpul MBUS folding rear sight.

And finally, the last change to the Sport changed from the 1:8 5R barrel to the 1:9 barrel that is currently on the Sport 2. The difference between the Sport 2 and the last version of the Sport was the addition of the ejection port cover and the forward assist.
