Got to be Quick to get a Shield

I've yet to not see a shield in stock at the LGS, I'm puzzled but the lack of supply in some locations.
Went to a LGS yesterday which is not one I normally deal with. They do a pretty good business.
Well, I asked them about a Shield 9, they laughed and said they've only ever gotten one in. And they get from 5 to 10 phone calls or in person inquiries EVERY DAY about the Shield. He said he could probably sell 50 of them in a week if he had them.

Still waiting for one here.....

OP: In all honesty, shields are not that difficult to get ahold of. There are a few things to consider:

1) how much work are you willing to put into finding one? I spent many hours over several weeks calling different shops until I found one
2) are you willing to pay to have it shipped and transferred to you?

If you're sitting by and waiting for one of the largest online retailers to get them in and email you (among probably 2,000 others), you will miss out. Same goes for casually checking your LGS. It's all dependent on how bad you want it and how much time you're willing to put in. That being said, good luck, the gun is well worth it IMO!
Have to disagree with you on this one. There a PIA to find and when you do folks want $150-$200 over retial.Supply and demand;)

That's why I haven't purchased a Shield. I have only been able to find them for $90+ over suggested retail. I'll wait until the supply catches up with demand.

Does anyone know where to find one in Nebraska for msrp or less?

Newbie here. Got my shield 2 months ago paid full retail didn't really care, i found one finally had a chance to handle the gun and brought it on the spot. They are on gunbroker for $500-550, my LGS had about 10 in stock when I got mine the other 2 guys standing at the counter with me made the same purchase cause they couldn't find them either.

I don't want one bad enough to pay that much.

I did pick up a 6906 for $399 though. :D

And there is a super sweet like new 3913 for sale and-I'm-not-saying-where!!! It's hard enough to buy third gens as it is!!

Not trying to hijack this thread (probably already did it), BUT is the 9mm barrel and etc, interchangable with the 40? If so, why not buy a 40, which seem to be more plentiful?

I doubt one Shield is more available than another. It is just a matter of luck on finding them at your LGS. S&W is producing around 800 Shields a day, working around the clock (3 shifts). If S&W knows one Shield, say the 9mm, is selling better than the 40's, they are going to produce more of the faster selling gun. There are over 50,000 FFL's in the USA. Do the math and see why they are hard to find.

It took me 2 months of calling around to find one in stock, in fact when the guy told me they had gotten a good stock of them in the day before I thought he was lying,I had to drop what I was doing and head across town.

I have been waiting since July 28th

It's kind of frustrating to wait with no word. I only received nine dollars off of full list price. Don't mind waiting, but there is no ETA which makes waiting harder. Maybe the local gun shop is selling them to their most favored customers first. I was told that I was first on the waiting list on July 28, 2012.

I talked to a shooter who has been waiting over a year for a 9mm S&W Pro. It looks like S7W is having a hard time keeping up with demand. Good problem to have, I guess.

Local gun shop here sells them for MSRP at $430 LGS has them for $399. and none has the 9mm.
