My ANIB Ruger Blackhawk .327 arrived at the FFL yesterday. Went to the shop to start the background check process. Currently taking about 7 days when it normally takes 30-45 minutes. Almost like being back in California. The Obama frenzy lives on. Well at least I got to look at and dry fire the gun. I have 300 rounds of ammo just waiting to be discharged.

01/24/2013 update= The overwhelmed Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check system completed my check, the gun is now resting in my safe. Off to the range Saturday.

Thats crazy 7 days for a background check... Most the time it takes them less then 5mins at my local shop.

Very nice Ruger I keep telling my self going to pick up a single action one of these days in either 357magnum or 44magnum

If you don't reload buy as much .32 S&W, .32 H&R, and .327 as you can afford. I had a couple .32 H&R revolvers in the last ammo shortage starting in '08. It took almost 2 yrs. to get it back on the shelves.

Question, What state is this? The federal mandated background check is an automatic proceed after 3 days.
If only one gunshop can be saved.

GLOAT ALERT! In Arizona, walk in with concealed carry card (no longer needed to cc), choose gun, fill out 4473, show card, pay money, leave wih gun. At least we aren't 49th in the country for everything

Colorado voters actually passed a similar law our last knucklehead governor vetoed it. We had a whole bunch of gunshows in December that were mobbed, people apparently were buying everything in site. The state bureau of investigation that does the background checks got swamped. It was 12 days wait early in January.

Texas doesn't have a state law requiring a background check: I walk into a store with my CCW and they don't have to contact NICS; I walk out with my new gun.

Re: Got to visit my new gun today.

Here in Louisiana takes longer for my dealer to dial the number on his phone than it does for him to get the approval...2 minutes or less and I'm handing him the cash.

Before it hit the fan

Before it hit the fan in Sandy Hook, in SC my approval (including entering of info on a computer) took about 10 minutes max. I'm just glad I got my 686 before the mess. Now I'm digging all over the inet just to get reloading supplies.

No joke here in Colorado. I added a couple of handguns to the collection for Christmas. When my background check went in I was ~12,500 in line  !!! It took over two weeks to finally get my hands on em. Quite a change from 6 months ago when you could walk into a lgs and walk out in 30 mins, gun in hand.

Nice thing is, I finally got the CZ 75 I have been wanting and I picked up a .38 special wheel gun for the wife. :D Now I'm on the search for a S&W M&P 45c.

I'm in Colorado, as of Wednesday 23 January I was told my background check will take at least 7 working days. A CCW permit doesn't make the process any faster. My permit is also in a black hole, I had to get fingerprinted twice, I have fingers that are "hard to characterize" and the first set got rejected. This is not news to me, I've had to get multiple fingerprints before for clearances. It is a bit frustrating though.

I am not looking to buy anything right now, but if something did come along I would have to use my C&R or do a FTF or else forget about it.

I'm thinking of picking up a new Crossbow :p Nevermind the Gun shops are Crazy houses!

Virginia has a bill working its way through that will provide for the same type of check - CCW permit will get a faster background check.

House Bill 2342, sponsored by Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (R-31), would require that the Department of State Police provide an expedited process by which Virginians who present a concealed handgun permit may receive an expedited criminal history information background check when purchasing a firearm. (NRA supports)

Did they change the law when I wasn't looking?

I'm pretty sure that when that Brady Bunch "background check" BS started, they put a three-day limit on it. They had three days to deny it, or it was an automatic "Approved".

So what is this, "It's taking seven days" garbage?
