The current Governor has the room for the 2.55" 45-70 cartridge...seems like it wouldn't take much to do it. Ammo would be a LOT cheaper than the .500 and pretty close to the power.

Real wishful thinking: make it a PC gun or a Heritage edition,so no lock. Blue,or case color frame. Even stainless. 6,8" or 10" barrel options. Wide Target trigger/Target hammer.Target sights..good ones. Grip options. Price it reasonably. I'll buy one. :)

Better beef up the cylinder and probably the frame. 45-70 runs about 28,000 psi vs 45 acp+p about 23,000 and with the bullet weight about double the momentum forces would be substantial.

You would need a X frame and cylinder stretched out to governor lengths.
All that and not much difference in ballistics than a 460. While a 22" Ruger fires a 300 gr 45-70 at 2400fps. Lop off the barrel 14" and your going to be drop alot.
From Magnum research
.45/70, 10-Inch Barrel

300 grain Federal Sierra Classic, average 1507 FPS and muzzle energy 1513 FT/LBS
300 grain Winchester Super X, average 1405 FPS and muzzle energy 1315 FT/LBS
405 grain PMC, average 1056 FPS and muzzle energy 1003 FT/LBS

a 460 S&W from a 8 3/8" test barrel
300 grain .452 caliber bullet at 2060 ft/s
360- 1900f/s
395-1525

Looks to me like a 460 revolver smokes the 45-70 in a handgun and the 460 can shoot 45 colt and casul
