Good for AL...
Hopefully, other Governors will follow suit.

Good news! Not only does FL not prohibit firearms at rest stops, many, if not all, have armed security at night following the murders of two tourists a few years back.

A rest stop, is the LAST place I would be unarmed.

I carry anyway, and post myself out side the rest room while my wife is using it.

Ain't that the truth......................

We do an overnight drive to the Outer Banks....... Pa., W.VA ,Va. and NC..... and a risky 100yds of Maryland.......................... all pretty dark and lonely ..... except for the Rest Stops in Va.........which seem to attract a "creepy" crowd at 2-4 am. (Think "Walking Dead" or creepy, cheap Sci-Fi channel movie)

I try to limit my stops to Sheetz's... more often than not we see a guy in uniform looking for a fresh donut or coffee...... :D

When we make out-of-state road trips, this one of the reasons I bring along a LEOSA weapon.

After some not so welcome stops here or there I only stop at Pilot or Loves truck stops while traveling.

Sometimes nature has a way of forcing you off the road even when you don't want (unless you are willing to wear a stadium bag).

Couldn't agree more. I just avoid them when I can. For the most part, that isn't too hard to do. No need to swim in dangerous waters if you don't have to.

That's good news. I think that I would have carried a gun, in violation of the signs anyway.
I have done other naughty things in life, and lived to tell about it.

I've never stopped at a rest area in AL or most other states for that matter.

I try to time my breaks so I can get gas, use the rest room, and get a fresh coffee in one stop.

A few years back a friend of mine and I took a road trip to western IA. We drove straight through, swapping off driving.
At one of our stops in either IN or IL, I was braced by a kid who wanted money. I told him no and got in the car. He stood there deciding whether or not he was going to try to take the money. I looked at him and then my friend got out of the car and looked at him. He decided better of it and went over to another car. The driver of which almost ran him over when he walked up to the car.

I have no doubt that my friend and I would have given the kid a good beating. My friend not only grew up in ME pulling lobster traps, but he was a medic assigned to a Ranger battalion when he was in the Army. I'm not as well built, but had a lot of experience restraining violent patients.

Still, I would have felt a bit safer had I had a gun on me.

Back during the "Great Recession" I couldn't find work in my normal profession and was forced to take a job driving an 18 wheeler. DOT and company regulations forbid the possession of a firearm in the truck. I spent many a night unarmed and alone in some of the seediest places on the planet. Fortunately I never had an issue. If anyone wants to change something. Change that.

GaryS there were two of you against one guy wanting money. Would you really draw and shoot the guy if he tried to take some money from you by force?
