Governor

After looking at this "gun" on their website I am truly embarassed and dissapointed with S&W. I could of thought of several new innovative guns for them to unveil that may not be huge hits, but I am sure they would go over better than this gun will. First they make a goofy plastic revolver that just looks silly, and now they plagerize yet another gun design. People might say they are only following the money but I would think that the money would be more lucrative if they would unleash something that is not a copy of a second class gun company's product.
 
I have fired the new Governor, and I really like it. It fits the hand very well, has a smooth trigger pull, and is relatively light. It also holds six instead of five. Since the entire design of a Taurus revolver is a S&W copy, how is it that Smith is ripping off Taurus? Some folks won't buy a Taurus, and most of us prefer to buy American when we can. I like both, and already have a Judge or two, but will also buy the Governor, if the test gun shoots as well as did the one that I have briefly fired.

I said to a friend today that i wouldn't buy a Taurus but now that Smith had this gun I would consider buying it. His response surprised me. He said that Taurus' quality was every bit as good as Smith's, probably better. I haven't seriously looked at a Taurus in years. Could this guy be right?
 
I own a judge. It's the only Taurus I own. I use it down at the ranch for a snake gun and nothing else. It does an excellent job. I will ditch the judge and buy a govenor when they come out.

What does it have a service life of 5 rounds? It would only appeal to the ultimate WWII fanatic, and then, I still see no purpose:eek: It would cost $10 to make and probably sell for $600......
 
Really strange that the week, just in time for the Shot Show, S&W comes out with their version of the Judge, Taurus trumps them with the new 28 gauge.
Like Lee said, I will hold out for the 3.5" 10 gauge version.
In reality I was amazed at the array of Taurus Judge models at the Ogallala, NE Gun Show two last weekend. Guess I haven't kept up.
Really got a Razzing in Torrington, WY this past week for being a S&W fan when the news of The Governor went public. Just not my idea of a S&W.

It seems to me that S&W has copied numerous pistol designs that have very large fan base, you may have heard about one, it's the 1911. Give it sometime, it may grow on you and may develop into a great gun for gun guys. If not, don't buy it...
 
There are a lot of "copies" out there.......I read that Taurus copied the design of some European company for the Judge anyway, I saw a pic of the "original" Judge over on the Ruger forum.

A Judge in 28 Gauge? Who wants a revolver in a defunct, uncommon shotgun gauge?

Taurus makes some good quality firearms. However, if you do have a problem, Taurus has a reputation for being very slow on service. I still buy Taurus handguns, and have no problem with them.

On another note, first day of SHOT, taurus showed me their 28 gauge Judge. Second day, they called me over to tell me that BATFE had put the skids on it, due to bore size. For now, the 28 is on hold, as is the leveraction 410 pistol from Rossi.

I have no problem at all with their being more choices on the market. If Ruger comes out with a 410 revolver, or Dan Wesson (they are attempting a revolver comeback), I am all for it.

If it does an excellent job, why will you ditch it? What more could you ask of this gun?

I like the thing. It does hold six, and shoots .45 ACP. As to the copying, it comes down to profit! They are in business to make money period. If every company had the attitude that we could not copy then we would get poor quality from what we purchased. Competition keeps people honest, and striving for quality. As to Taurus being bad quality... I don't subscribe. I have several, and all have been flawless. Now they aren't my Performance center, or pro series guns, but I didn't pay as much as I did for those either. Again profitabilty is the name of the game, and S&W knows a thing or two about being profitable long term I think! Just my two cents.
 
Taurus quality seems to be hit / miss. I was going to buy a 22 revolver the other day. I picked up one and it had a super tight lockup, but a trigger that felt like I was going to dislocate my finger before it fired. I picked up another that had a pretty good trigger pull, but the cylinder had so much play that it scared me off.

The one that seems to have consistent good quality is the 1911; I owned one and tested it against a Kimber and a Para for accuracy... the Taurus won.
 
I'd rather see S&W copy the Rhino rather than the judge.

The worse part of the copy is the name. Come on, one-uping the political office is just un-imaginative.

I vote the new 28 gauge be named "Dread" in stead of "Raging"

Saw it at the SHOT Show last week. Yes, a blantant copy of the Taurus Judge (including the name Governor), with the addition of .45 ACP.

Another "novelty" gun that many will buy as soon as it comes out, then sell it 6 months later at a loss after the "new" wears off.

But probably a profit maker if dealers can move them.

Thats exactly the use I am looking for and I would prefer a 3inch.
