Governor

From what I've seen and heard it's either a stretched N frame or it might be the X. But until I see one for real it's unknown. Dale

Backorders

Does anyone have a clue how long it takes to get one of these guns. My local gunshop is mum. They ordered one for their display/sale counter in January and claim it still hasn't arrived.

My local gun shop in SE Wi still has not received any either. I ordered mine about a month ago-still waiting.

I bought mine ($579 + s/t) 6/13/11 at a new local shop. He had gotten five in 6/10 - and had two left when I departed. A larger shop got two in - another larger S&W 'Stocking Dealer' still had none. Go figure?

BTW, the X-frame .460/.500 Magnum OEM Hogue monoblock's fit the Governor perfectly - as do K/L frame Ahrends. Those .500 Magnum Hogues pad the backstrap - really a help in the hotter .410 recoil. Also - another caliber ammo fits and fires fine... .45 Schofield - aka .45 'short' Colt... try to find it (I make some when I am really bored.).

Stainz

I bought a Governor at a local shop a week or so ago...it was $589. I haven't seen them in any other shops so far (not that I've been to them all, but there are several that I check put pretty regularly.) I bought this one on impulse; I went in the shop looking for ammo.

It is chambered for .410, .45 ACP (using moon clips), and .45 LC. Stainz mentioned that it will take .45 Schofield. I bought some .410 and .45 LC ammo for it, but I haven't shot it yet. I already have a lot of .45 ACP, but I'm not wild about loading moon clips. I may decide to order one of the moon clip tools...I had one at one time, when I had a Model 22 revolver, and it sure makes loading the clips a breeze...but I sold it when I sold the revolver.
