My eleven year old granddaughter bagged this 22 pound gobbler this morning on my farm. First day of youth season and her first hunt. One shot from a 20 gauge at about 50 feet. She was pretty excited!

50 feet! Was your granddaughter camouflaged as a tree? Turkeys won't come within 50 yards of me unless I'm in my car. Maybe it's my mouth wash? I bet you couldn't wipe that smile off her face if you tried!

To guarantee a humane kill every turkey hunter knows that the shot cannot be more than 50 feet.

Good camo, plus face and hands, zero body movement and lots of practice calling is what is needed.

maybe turkey didn't associate such a small person as a threat. His mistake

Two decoys were set up and the gobbler went straight to the hen decoy and tried to mount it. He was gettin' busy with it! When the decoy didn't respond, he backed off a couple of feet and that's when she fired. Afterwards she asked why he was fighting with the decoy. Oh, sweet innocence of youth!
