Before you read further I DID NOT kill a gobbler!!
But this was still a great hunt. So far this season I've seen and been "beaten" by 3 really nice old gobblers since opening day.
Today was/is cold for this time of year (called Dogwood Winter) but what a glorious day to be out on the mountain....wildflowers and wild azaleas beginning to bloom, all kinds of wild song birds, plus I saw cottontails, squirrels, a fox, & 4 deer. I did call in a couple of jake turkeys that I passed on (may regret that as the season goes on) but never saw or heard the boss-gobbler I've been holding out for. But this was still a great hunt....sunrise was spectacular and with all the wildlife and with the hills alive with flowering plants it was just beautiful.
My thoughts were what a blessing to spend these trying days in such spectacular manner......what a great way to be quarantined.
Hopefully I'll be able to do it all again the next couple of days before the rains come back in.
