I've been a guest reader on this forum for many years but just joined today. Not sure why I didn't jump in sooner, but I'm glad to be here now.
My first S&W was a J-frame from the Performance Center. I purchased it new, back in 1992, or there about. Can't remember the exact model, but the beautiful rosewood grips still strike an image in my mind's eye. After firing only 2 cylinders full of .38 specials, the cylinder failed to lock in position... rotated freely. S&W made good on it at there own expense and I had the gun back in hand in less than two weeks. But the experience spooked me, and I sold the gun.
About 6 years ago I bought a new 7-shot ss 686 with a 4" barrel. It had a fluted cylinder. (I don't see it listed in S&W's on-line catalogue.) I sold that one because... well... because I was STUPID. I sure wish I never sold it. It was a real sweet gun.
In a few days I will have a pre-lock 627 2 5/8", and I am NOT going to sell that one. In fact, I'd like to find a second pre-lock 627, but one with the fluted cylinder. (I know S&W will sell me a new fluted cylinder for my 627, and fit it to my gun, but I sort of like the idea of having all original components.) As soon as I get it, I promise to post some gun porn.
Anyway, glad to be part of this forum!
Best regards,
