Howdy folks, I'm in the process of buying a Model 41 with the 5.5 inch barrel and just want to learn as much as I can about this particular firearm before it arrives. In Ireland it is very difficult to get this gun and it will cost me around $1850 for the privilege. The gun must also have its magazine capacity reduced to five rounds by the dealer before he can sell it on to me. It has taken me six months to get the serial number for it so that I can apply for the firearms license. This process can take over a year in some cases, but at best a few months.
I mainly shoot Gallery Rifle with a modified Ruger 10/22 and up until about two years ago shot a centre fire pistol. Sadly the government essentially banned all pistols above .22 and only a few remain in private hands, apart from the criminals, who dont seem too worried about the ban. I decided on the 41 because I didn't want to have to change the gun in six months when I wanted something better. Buy right and cry once. Anyways, I finally got to shoot one last weekend and i'm really glad i chose the 41, I got second place in a competition with a gun i had never shot before. :D:D:D

Welcome from Pennsylvania, cousin!! (Well, he could be):)

Welcome aboard. We're probably cousins.

Anyway,I was walking around Dublin lost as usual last fall with my 10 year old granddaughter. We were there as my daughter was running in the Dublin Marathon ( "The Worlds Friendliest Marathon " ... typical Irish understatement ). I don't generally mind being lost in Ireland as I run into interesting people where ever I am. I saw a Gardai station and stopped in to ask directions. My real purpose was to ask one of the officers about cops there not being allowed to carry firearms. Met a friendly cop who told me detectives carry and that other cops can be issued firearms " when needed ". I told him that I help teach a class for retired US cops for a national carry permit and that even retired cops can carry most places here. I feel sorry for those guys as the crooks clearly don't follow similar rules. If it weren't for the idiotic gun laws in Ireland it would be the place I would like to live after the US.

7shooter, the law is a mess here. I have friends who are cops here, who are part of the emergency response unit and they can carry for their work, but cant get a licence for their own gun to shoot on a controlled range.

Welcome to the forum... It sounds like a real mess over there as far as gun ownership is concerned. The libturds are trying to do the same thing here. Thank God for the Constitution.

Welcome from Texas Lemon3. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Always grand to have a new member of the S&W family join in from across the Eastern pond.
