Cheaper than having a new extractor installed, I will give this a try. Thanks for the idea.
After a very good chamber cleaning, get yourself a tin of Imperial Sizing Die Wax and put a very thin coat in the chamber with a qtip. It keeps the brass from sticking in the chamber like it keeps a cartidge case from sticking in a sizing die.My 1972 Model 41 was given to me by my dad, and it was working fine with CCI Low Velocity ammo. But recently it started having trouble cycling. It is not ejecting the casing after each shot, and if it does, then it is not feeding properly.
My dad gave me a replacement ejector and spring that I just had a local gunsmith install, along with a new recoil spring that he ordered. But I went to the range yesterday hoping it was fixed and there is still the same problem.
I called Smith and Wesson today and I can send it in, but it could be 3-5 months to get it back. I am hoping that you experts might have some thoughts concerning my Model 41.
Recommend you replace the extractor. I had same issue with mine which is a 1959 mfg date. With mine the shell casing would hang out the side of the ejection port and prevent chambering the next round. Replacement of extractor is a very easy process. Look at yours and see if the hook on the end of it is still there. My 1972 Model 41 was given to me by my dad, and it was working fine with CCI Low Velocity ammo. I replaced the extractor and two springs. The barrel needed to get honed due to having a burr on the shorter barrel. Shot fine with the long barrel.Recommend you replace the extractor.
