I became a member a few months ago when I was offered a Smith & Wesson revolver k38 1955. I then became interested in collecting revolvers specifically Smith & Wesson's. I do have a question, What's the best approach to collecting these revolvers, is there a collectors book? Also is there a book for dating guns by serial number?

Been visiting OR since about 1995, bought a home in Grants Pass a few years back. Retirement home. Don't worry - am just a temp CA resident who kept his conservative New Hampshire politics & values intact. ;)

The SCSW is a great resource for dating, maybe not so much for value especially with the "pre-MIM" & P&R stuff. The front of the catalog is great reading, but there's lots of dating & serial number in the back pages. I've found manufacture dates for the "dash - " model to be pretty helpful too. Especially if one has a C&R license.

Takes a little effort to learn the serial numbering info, bi\ut worthwhile.

Welcome from Washington! For the benefit of my cousin in Albany OR, I refer to your state as Baha Washington. In return, he reminds me that we're really Northern Oregon Territory.

We're both wrong. :D
