Good Morning,

Will someone please tell me why grips have the names they do?

Combat

Boot

Roper

and others.

Specifically the combat and boot. Is the combat a thinner grip so you can get both hands on the gun ala Combat Style? If that's true, what about the boot grip?

Thanks,

John

I've always thought that combat grips had finger grooves on the front strap. Craig Spiegel is the originator of the boot grip, as grips that would go on a gun you can conceal in your boot, I believe. Roper grips were made by Walter Roper, who worked for S&W in the 1920s and later ran his own business selling them. Keith Brown of this forum makes fantastic reproductions. You can see more about Ropers here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-ha...-roper-grip-info-more-pics-added-10-25-a.html

Hope this helps.
