Way back in better times our family organised hunting safaris on our property and concessions in Central Africa, one of our regular clients very kindly presented us with a Smith & Wesson 629 Magna Classic, one in 3000, calibre 44 Remington Magnum. This was all in the early 1990s. The Revolver remains in unfired, except for regulatory proof testing, in its original packaging with presentation case, interchangeable front sight blades etc. Well I am a few months off 80 years and re-discovering this elegant revolver in my safe has fired up an enthusiasm to shoot it, at last. Now my question, the frame has a round grip and feels most unbalanced in my long fingered but light hands does any one know of a replacement grip that would square the hold up and improve the balance. We live in New Zealand so access to accessories is not as good as the USA.

Welcome to the forum.

What you are after is what we would call a round butt conversion grip.

Something befitting the Magna Classic would be the Eagle target conversion "Coke" grip.

Not sure if you can buy this in NZ. Good luck.

I have conversion grips from Ahrends and Culina and also from a seller from Thailand called vitoonmaker on eBay. I have also made a filler piece to allow for use of square butt grips on a round butt gun.

You should be able to source a rubber Hogue Round Butt conversion grip, those are available "everywhere".
May not be the prettiest grips, but they work great for shooting.

I like the Hogue hardwood conversion grips. They are available with several different wood types/colors as well as with or without checkering. With or without finger grooves.
