I have acquired 32long I frame and needing a grip screw. I’m finding lots of conflicting info. Can anyone tell me what size I need or where to get the correct one?

I have an I frame 22/32 Kit Gun---I say I have, the Boss Lady says it's hers!!!!

I'm assuming it takes the same screw, and if my tap and die set goes that fine, I'll have an answer for you in short order.

It's said the road to hell is paved with good intentions---but a poor memory doesn't help things along. Momma's gun carries Fitz Gunfighter grips---as it has for the past 50+ years. They, in turn, carry their own screw----so I'm no help!

It occurs to me a set of aftermarket grips (also with their own screw) offers a solution----if such is to be had today.

I’d thought of aftermarket grips but I’d like to keep it original and they’re in nice shape so even if if I went that way I’d still like to have the right one for the originals.

The screw length can be different depending on the grip.
A J frame screw may work. Pictures could help.
You can find new screws and new escutcheons on eBay that may fit exactly or may need to be cut to length.

Thanks for the responses, it appears I do need the escutcheon also as there are no threads in the grips. I’m new to these old revolvers so I’m learning. If J frame ones work that could expand my search. Its a 1941 mfg. year with stock grips. I’ll try to post a pic.

I can tell you that our local old school hardware store couldn't come up with a match for a set of grips I had ... so when I was ordering some Ahrend Grips I asked Kim about a new screw ... I bought a replacement ...
... it fit ... problem solved !

You might try ordering a screw & escutcheon from a grip maker ... they seem to be an odd size . The Hardware store was stumped ... !

If you can buy a set of used Magna J frame stocks, you can remove the escutcheon and put it into your I frame stocks.

eBay has several sets for sale or you can post in the Want To Buy section of the Forum.

Nearby hardware stores here have sections labeled as "Gunsmith Screws"...;)...Ben

Good point---maybe!

SOME ACE stores carry what're labeled as GUN SCREWS. Sizes run from zero (0) to 8----possibly higher---don't remember. The bad news is all of them are too short for use with grips. The other good news is they'd serve to identify the thread count---IF the escutcheons were available.

Better news is Brownells also carries screws----very likely long enough---and maybe even the escutcheons.

Give them a call!

And even better news: Brownells has grip screws listed on EIGHT different pages in their catalog---which is 10 years old. It figures their current catalog has that, and more.

And seeing as how a lot of folks use computers instead of catalogs these days, it also figures you're going to find everything you need on their web site.

The top screw is from my model 14-4. It is 5-44. Hope this helps.
