I am looking for a set of grips to fill the web of my hand, on the upper backstrap. Any suggestions? Pictures are good.

Thanks,

Craig

No picture but look at Herrets Jordan Troopers. Pachmyer made some in plastic. If you can find a set that is an inexpensive way to see if they feel good to you. Keep in mind Bill Jordan was a big man w huge hands.

If you think that is the way to go you send Herrets a tracing of your hand and they custom make them. Used to be reasonably priced but haven't checked recently.

I own them. Great for absorbing recoil. Also, great fit and finish.

Two options I have used. Pachmyer Diamond pro if it is a rnd butt. Or Thailand wood grips that work for either rnd or sq butt

Another possibility might be the old Mustang grips. They fill in the upper back strap, and I've seen excellent to LNIB sets for sale at about every gun show I go to.

If your 686 is a RB, the Hogue grip that Smith puts on their X-frames. Available from the S&W store and, now, I believe directly from Hogue.

Here's my 586-4 Brazil with that grip...

I think you can only get them in black now.

Adios,

Herrett's Jordan Troopers, as previously mentioned:

I have them at least two other guns, they just fit my hands well. Is Joni Lynn still around, she has about a million of them. :)

Here are pixs of the Pachmyer Diamond Pro and the Thailand grips on my 325 TR (N frame round butt). I think both grips are available for L frames.

You could also go to the website for culina's grips, run by forum member Kurac. I've heard nothing but favorable comments from buyers, and they certainly look outstanding.

PACHMAYER "GRIPPER" GRIPS HAVE A RECOIL ABSORBING COVERED BACKSTRAP.....

They work well, but are as ugly as sin. My 625-2 came from the factory with them. When I shot it at the range the first time, I put a paper bag over my head. I've since found a really nice set of Ace Custom conversion stocks that are much nicer.

Thanks for the ideas so far. A lot of my problem seems to be this is a square butt gun. It's a 8 3/8 586.

Some pictures of Rubber Grips - Comparison of Pacmayr Diamon Pro and Hogue 500 X frame. The Hogue 500 X Frame grips are my personal choice -- I even modified a set by rounding the butt and grinding off the finger groves w/Dremel drum sander:

Hogue on Left, Pach on right

PACHMAYRS WILL NEVER WIN A BEAUTY CONTEST---THAT'S FOR SURE ! ! !

IMHO, THEY WOULD NOT BE 1/2 AS BAD, WITHOUT THOSE UGLY, DULL MEDALLIONS.....
