Grips for a 6904

I just bought a great gun a few weeks ago in my new to me 6904. It came with Houge rubber grips on it, and those are fine for me. However they are not good for my wife, for whom the weapon was really purchased. I bought some 3rd Gen factory grips from eBay, and they don't seem to fit. Am I doing something wrong?

The Hogues use a adaptor to hold the mainspring and provide a place to attach the grip panels. The adaptor is held on with the factory grip pin. I'm guessing that you need to remove the adaptor to install the factory grips which hold the mainsring.
