Grips for M69, 500 Impact Hogues, or ?

My reading here and elsewhere points me toward the Model 500 Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion Grips that are sold via S&W with S&W SKU# 294670000. None of my LGS's have them, and the one that was willing to order them said his distributor is out, too. Are there any other Hogues more commonly found that will help with recoil as well as the 500's?

I have a set of Monogrips on my square butt M29-10. They work very well. For those with more grip experience, should I stick with the plan to get the S&W marketed Hogues or settle for other Hogues? If those 500's dampen the recoil better than plain Monogrips, then I'll wait for them.

It's funny how those stock rubber grips are just fine on a new 686 .357 Magnum, but feel like a hammer with a .44 Magnum.

I used the 500 Hogue on a TR 325, which made shooting hot .45s in a lightweight revolver a pleasure. Great grip.

The Hogue 500s are the only grips that protect the bone at the base of my hand from getting hammered under recoil. I have them on all my current Round Butt guns (629s, 69s, 66, 617, and some others) so that transition from one gun to the next is virtually seamless.

Why don't you just order them from S&W's online store?

S&W seems to have trouble keeping items in stock, so you may have to wait a bit. I ordered 3 sets the last time, and had to wait a bit as they were out of stock.

Thanks for the replies. Paul, how long was a "bit," and when the order shipped, were you notified they were on the way or did they just show up one day without warning?

It's been a while, and I don't remember exactly when I ordered them or when they showed up but no notification, they'll just show up.

Why don't you call or email S&W and see if they are currently in stock? Might have to wait longer to get someone on the phone than the grips LOL.
