I bought a 29-5 awhile back, it had S&W target grips on it, I didn't like them, I sold them, but now I want something other than these Hogue rubber grips.

The Altamont Roper Grips are too thin for me, might as well make the grips out of a hatchet handle. Altamont's "Coke bottle" target grips are out of stock, I have some of them on a Model 15 and like them. However, their checkered target grips are in stock...are these wider than their Ropers?

Another idea I had was Herrett's Production Target Grips. Anyone have experience with them?

I always bought Ahrend's grips for my 1911's and K-Frames, but they are sadly out of business. That was a great company.

There are some el cheapo deluxe grips on Amazon that look cheap and are made in Thailand..I'm going to avoid those.

As long as you aren't looking for factory, what about hitting up Patrick Hogue at Hogue Inc. and inquiring about custom made Hogue monogrips in the wood of your choice, with the old style high right shoulder? Can't guarantee anything but he may have some old stock blanks or be willing to turn out some new ones. Price is very reasonable. I just had these made.

Of course you could get some very nice OTC ones if you aren't looking for the vintage look.

I have Hogue wood mono grips, and Herretts, along with my factory stocks. Herretts are MY favorite. They fit me well. Bob

I like the look of the Altamont Roper style grips, and just put a pair on my model 18-4, but you are right - They are narrow, and would probably not be a good choice on a heavy kicker.

I do like Hogue wood grips w/o the finger grooves on hard kickers. Plenty of width and length for a solid grip. A couple pics below.

I have a couple sets of Ahrends, they fit me well, but are a little thin on heavy kickers.
