I recently had the pleasure of receiving back some
Marvelous Grip Restoration work and Terrific Roper
style Grip/Stock Creations from our Active Wood Artisan Curt Harlow(44 magget).
The 50s Style UnRelieved Grips that needed some blemishes worked on , an early style large frame Gold Medallion worn set restored , along with some Terrific Roper Creations displayed here Curt crafted for the Early Target Grip Era Smith and Wessons. His palm swells really make handling them feel great in use.
I wanted to convey how we are very very lucky to have a member among us willing to take on work for the S&W treasures we seek out in our treasure hunting searches.
A few pictures of his recent work done for me.
Best, Randy..

Gorgeous work. You certainly have some beautiful stocks there Randy. The Ropers are fantastic.
Curt is very talented, his work is top notch.

Grips

Curt has done a couple sets of custom made grips making my J frames fit my hand! These were made as functional, not for show, and made to my specs, perfectly! Curt also has access to some outstanding exhibition grade walnut for his grips and allows customers to pick what they want! A friend is having Curt make a set of non relieved, presentation style(no checkering), made from walnut with unbelievable figuring! Pics to follow when done!

Curt is a true artisan and a wood craftsman par excellence. I have several examples of his work and they are all gorgeous. I number him among the iconic stock makers that we often see exhibited on this forum.

Just one example...

Adios,

HR,
The Bright.wood finish sometimes compliments the bright Blued or Nickel finishes, however,
I've found you can reduce the gloss look by using 4/0
steel wool Or a fine grade of fiber wood finishing
pads you can cut up into small useful 1&1/2 inch squares for the more Satin or Natural look you desire..
Best Randy !!

Curt's stock work and attention to detail are outstanding and his customer service wonderful.
I think the stockmakers at Smith & Wesson would be delighted to know that their original work was being so well looked after.
