Those grips were not likely introduced before the end of production of the Mod 18 in 1985.

But are found on 17-6s (about 1989-90) with the 4" lugged barrel.

The gun shop that had it for sale wanted
$1650. The grips were not numbered to the gun
It did have target hammer,trigger,&sights
No box 8 k serial number range.
Went back to see if he had any bites on the gun.
He sold it.

The factory combat grips were among some of the most comfortable ever made on a revolver. There are some makers who offer a similar design today. I know Eagle Grips, Culina Grips, and maybe a few others do.

And just my opinion but $1650 for a model 18 is way too high.

Be glad you didn't get it for even close to that price. That's WAY too much money for a model 18, even with $200-$300 worth of stocks!

Those Combat's came standard on the 14-6, 16-6, 17-6 and 617, which had full lugs. You could get the 16-6, 17-6 and 617 with either a 4" or a 6" barrel. I don't think they offered a 4" 14-6.

I've never seen or heard of an 18-6, so the Combat stocks were likely added at some point. The were sold as accessories and more than a few were taken off guns.
