Was there a fixed sight 1905 M&P model variation which came with grooved front and backstraps? If so, is it scarce? Tried using the search feature, but didn't have much luck pinning it down.
That's one nice job they did on that one - I'll bet it feels good in the hand.
The one that I'm talking about has the traditional 6-groves on the frontstrap and backstrap, more like the early K-38s, but without the adjustable rear sight though. I could swear I read about one in a post somewhere, but darned if I can find it!
Fixed sight hand ejectors could be ordered with grooved tangs after S&W started grooving the tangs on target guns in 1923. Los Angeles PD ordered some 1917s with grooved tangs.
Here is a 38 M&P I used to own that lettered with grooved tangs. I'll see if I can dig up the letter later.
Thanks for posting those - I knew I'd seen/heard of there being factory fixed sight guns like yours, but couldn't track down any posts to confirm it. I'm guessing that they would fall into the same general category of other special mods like humpback hammers - uncommon, but not scarce or rare. I guess they would just pull target intended guns off the line before the sight cuts were milled to fill the orders, maybe?
I would call them very rare. I have never seen another 38 M&P, nor a 1917 besides the LA order. I have only seen one 44 HE and I don't remember which model. I have never seen a 32/20. I have never seen a 38 Heavy Duty. I have never seen a 1950 44 or 45.
