Gun Brands.

Reading many forums on guns, I find that many times "Other Brands" that aren't the key of that forum are usually talked down on. I realize that many times it's for fun, or done jokingly. However sometimes(as with most things in life) it's snobbery at it's finest.

At our house we don't discriminate in anything that we do. Or at least we try not to. We find things that we like, can afford, and think we will enjoy and we buy them. Same goes with guns. In our household we own many brands. My oldest 2 are a Remington .410 that was passed down to me by my dad, who got it as a present from his dad. My oldest handgun is a Lorcin .25 which I bought the year before my son was born. Most useless as far as accuracy goes. But at the time it was what I could afford. In rifles we own Browning/Mossberg and in handguns we own S&W, Ruger, Browning, Chiappa, Hi Pointe and Pietta Arms.

I'm not ashamed to admit we own other brands. Are you? There is always one "better" than another. But the best gun is always the one you have with you.

I own many different ones that are of my liking! S&W seems to be in the top of my list for revolvers but I do own some Colts and some Rugers.
Rifles, Well again my favorites are my Winchesters but I do own Savages and some Remington!
So I guess I can report that I'm an Equal Opportunity Gun Collector !

Nope in handguns I have a Colt revolver(DS), and a semi auto (1911 Gold Cup), a Ruger security six .357 a High Standard target 22, an Indian arms 380, a Walther PPK 380, XDs.45.

Long guns I have a few and none of them say S&W on them.

Kind of doubt that will get me throw out of this forum!

I have a shooting buddy that was a "if it ain't a Kimber it ain't worth having" camp.....when we go shooting he always asks if I will bring my 4506-1......

Not for the most part. I have a Turkish 1911 knock off that is 100% reliable, it just has ****ty sights. I won't own a Glock though. Call it prejudice if you want but from my observations I call it sound judgment.

We are equal opportunity hoarders here.
I like some unusual pieces from time to time.
Like P64 Radom in 9X18 Makarov.
HK , Colt and even a Kimber.
Some are even [PASTIC] Glock which is not a pretty tool at all.
I favor S&W revolvers and Colt for autos and the SR1911 plus single six Ruger too.

Even the AMT Back up 45 found its way home one day.
It was a pleasure trading a taurus .22 snub for it. No cap on tarus since it is on my dislike list now. I like my guns to function.

I own some other brands, and refuse to own some others. I'm here because I own two S&W pistols, and might buy more.

Am I biased in models / brands? Absolutely.

And I belong to other forums for the others I follow.

Each has their own brand loyalty, mine is Smith&Wesson, but i am always open to different manufacturers.
I am usually last to buy the latest and greatest, that's why I try and read many forums and ask many questions from the experts, when allowed!!!!

I don't believe any manufacturer of firearms today has a monopoly on quality. I personally own many across the whole spectrum of what's available out there. There are some that I don't own because they don't appeal to me or I have no use for. Like everyone here, I have a certain amount I'm willing to pay for a product, and a certain minimum that I'm willing to except in quality regardless who the maker is. I'm not a brand snob and I don't limit myself to a particular type because my interest are varied. Diversity is a much banded about word these days, to me diversity is having a large choice of firearms.

Of the more common manufacturers (Smith Ruger Colt etc) I don't own a Winchester or a Remington. Nothing against them just don't have a use for one anymore. I don't own a Glock 'cause I never got around to buying one, don't know why just didn't. I do have something from the rest. I own a Dan Wesson Pistol Pac, a Sako rifle, a C. Sharps Hi Wall and a Gamo air rifle plus some from the afore mentioned common manufacturers. I'm not a collector I buy what suits my fancy. To quote aline from a movie "I'm at a time in my life when I can indulge my caprices."

For those here who won't own a "plastic" Glock how many own one or more of the new M&P line from Smith?

I have a '50's Colt and a new Buckmark for my .22's and a S&W MP9c for my defensive/training firearm. I enjoy all 3 and each has a place in my small but growing collection. I dont defend (pun not intended) what I own, and honestly on this forum i've seen very few occasions where one gets hit up for having something other then S&W. This forum actually seems to have about the lowest rate of trolling and issues I've found so far. And that is a huge plus in my book.

I say own and shoot what you like, and dont give a rat's booty what another may think about it.

Ive seen and been the victim of that kind of snubbery on another site I joined--made maybe ten posts on--never looked back. This site-however,is a bird of a different feather. Untill just under two weeks ago, I never owned any Smith and Wesson firearm. Well,I have one now thankstoa great gent here by the name of Ringo :iff Ringo::and I ant typeout the numbers as keys arent working___ Anyway,one of the first posts Irecallmaking--I was asking if anyone here has one of those American TacticalImports--knock-offs for the German STG fourty four.I got many replies pretty quickly. Since then,ive been hooked on this as the site i gototo get answers--laugh etc.

This forum has opened up my opinions of some guns. I used to be strictly--certain brand names I grew up with like: Winchester,Colt,etc. Nobody in my family ever owned aSmith and Wesson untill my mother bought herself a S and W three fifty-seven--snubnose about twenty five or so years ago. My brother had it now--probably long since lost too.

Anyway,I started off with various old military rifles and such like:Lee-Enfields,Mausers,a Garand that I regret getting rid of--a couple Inland and Iver-Johnson carbines--that I also regret selling--and many others.

Not that im putting anyone down--I just dont like Glocks--no particuar reason why>
? I also dont like Norinco weapons because the three I had--were all garbage.

As I love Western movies--my tastes in what I want--revolve around the time period. Winchester,Colt,Henry etc--are my favorite "Cowboy" guns makers. I willadd-though I hear they are better looking--I REFUSE To ever buy a Japanese made Winchester. If I win one in a contest? of course illkeepit but--ill never spend money buying one.

These days all my guns come from well known and respected makers. But in the past, Oh Boy have I owned some junk! When you're young and broke, you buy what you can afford. Shoot 'em, enjoy 'em and hopefully as time goes on you can move up to something better.
I have friends who own a wide variety of guns that some of the self proclaimed internet experts regularly po-po on. I've shot 'em and enjoyed the heck out of it.
The one type I don't own, never have owned and never will own is anything made of plastic. I don't care who's name is on it. They just ain't my cup of tea.
I've been known to take a poke at the plastic crowd now and then. But its just meant in fun. If that's your thing, by all means go for it.
Life's too short to waste time worryin' and fussin' about other people's choices.

This forum has opened up my opinions of some guns. I used to be strictly--certain brand names I grew up.
I grew up with Smiths, I don't have many and they are all 70's vintage, I wanted to get a compact pistol and I am overwhelmed with the choices that's why I need the forums for their expertise, but after reading the qc issues with Smith they are kind of pushed to the back, that is not to say anyone else have had issues, but other manufacturers forums don't seem to have the same issues.

My opinion on guns has been formed over years of hunting all kinds of critters and being a life member shooting at a gun club, some gun brands are better than others but it depends on when they were made as much as who made them. Just opinion and opinions vary lol

I know that there are "snobs" out there that love one kind of gun and hate some others. I've never understood where the hate comes from. I suppose it's an element of human nature for some folks to need the validation of the opinions of others. I call that the Me Too syndrome. In a huge majority of cases in my experiences that hate is not based upon their own experiences but in things they have heard or read on the internet and they have been spouting that hate for so long they actually believe it.

I, personally, would never express an opinion or a gun or just about anything else with out some experience of my own to back it up. If you just repeat what someone ELSE thinks you can make a mistake.

But I think that's different than just having a favorite brand of fire arms and being aware that there are many high quality brands of guns out there. Some have better revolvers or better pistols or better rifles etc.

I believe that most thinking people are aware that there is more than one good gun. I think that those that only buy one brand of gun are cheating themselves out of a lot of fun and happy shooting experiences.

....but...all that is just...my OPINION.

I understand and agree with the snobbery point.
I do talk down gun brands that have performed poorly for me, in multiple cases. I view that as helping others not make the mistakes that I have made.
Fortunately there are only two brands on this list and S&W is not one of them.

The only brand ive talked down about with out enough experiance are Glocks. I just never liked them but may actually rent one from a local indoor range sometime--just to see if im correct on my opinion of them.Mostly--I heard bad stuff about them from various people at gun shows and such. One thing i dont like--is plastic...Anything else--no probs with except Norincos. Ive had three--an""UZI" an SKS and an something else--all three performed badly and all three had continous stoppages.

Actually I was talking about Glocks in the OP. I know that some folks have tried them and don't like the trigger or the grip angle or the blocky feel and I'm way cool with that. All that took me some getting used to but I was so impressed with their accuracy and rugged dependability that I stuck with it and was vastly rewarded with 11 years and 23,000 round of trouble free shooting.

People still use the term "Plastic" gun or "tupper wear". I get embarrassed for them when I hear/see that. It makes them look...well...misinformed and inexperienced with Glocks. The don't melt in the trunk of your car and their "passive safety systems" are very safe. If the trigger is not pulled the gun cannot fire unless it is damaged and then it is rare.

People sometimes forget that a Glock is a MILITARY weapon...a tool if you will. It isn't supposed to be beautiful. It has a dull (but durable) finish so as not to reflect light and be visible at night. It is built to be dependable and accurate and rugged right out of the box. It's intended purpose if for use as a combat weapon in less than ideal conditions.

I carried the old Colt 1911M1A in Vietnam which was heavy and inaccurate to say the least. I'd have traded it for a Glock 21 in a heart beat given the opportunity. I'd have had an accurate and tough-as-nails pistol with nearly double the round count.
