Hi All,

First, I am not sure this is the correct place to post this question so if it isn't feel free to move it.

I need another gun safe. I need it to hold 10 long guns and about the same number of handguns. I am trying to get quality safe but do not care about do-dads, just protection. Any advice about models, features, do and don'ts gratefully appreciated.

I just recently got a larger new safe from Costco. It is a Cannon brand, I think the model is a CS72. Weighs about 700 lbs. so far, I’m happy with it. I’ve had one of their smaller ones for a couple years. It’s a Bighorn, and I started running out of room in it. Best advice I’ve seen about planning a safe purchase is to get a bigger one than you think you’ll ever need. You can spend as much as you want to on one, but I think the two I got from Costco were good value for the prices.

I have 5 Champion safes. They are made with American steel. Get the biggest and highest fire rated safe you can afford. Having a very fire resistant safe can make document storage a lot more convenient than having to wait for working hours if everything is in a safe deposit box at the bank. With the increase in price you pay for thicker steel walls and bolts, plus higher fire rating. They are also very attractive looking. I have heard mine described as "works of art."

Liberty Safes is having a big sale going on now.
I recently got a Fatboy Jr. I have seen them go for as low as $999. Liberty has many models and sizes to choose from. Liberty is made in the USA!

Go big...
Go real big.....
Go bigger than what you "THINK" that need now...…
No guy has ever said "gee , I wish that I had bought a smaller safe" :)

you'll need room for
* ammo
* important documents
* irreplaceable items
* more guns
* more ammo

This is the quote of the ages speaking truth.

As others said ..... buy one twice as big as you think you need.

15-plus years ago I bought a Liberty and would buy another. But .... no local businesses carry any Liberty other than their smallest and cheapest models.

Two weeks ago I bought a Kodiak K5940EX-SO. A video link is attached. This unit locally was $999.00. Parent company is Rhino Metals in Idaho. Veteran owned. You can't go wrong. 705 pounds empty, 38 gun and the swing out is cool.

Everyone here will tell you to buy a really big safe but there are questions that need to be answered first. How long do you plan to live in your current home? Some safes may not fit in the area you want them at your next house. Also any safe over 400 lbs is really difficult to move and you might need to call professional movers which can cost $400-$800 plus, depending on how heavy. Most people will tell you the mechanical lock is more reliable than the electrical lock but it is more expensive, what is your budget? What level of security do you need? Do you have a monitored alarm system, dogs, gun insurance, and live in a relatively crime free neighborhood? Do you live where your closest neighbor is hundreds of yards away or more? It's easy to break into any safe if you can make some noise with powerful cutting tools. I personally like the idea of a safe that is about 350lbs that I can move myself and will fit through 24" door openings that are in many home closets and I can get another safe as my collection grows and of course, two safes are twice as hard to break into as one.

Farmer17, I like and agree with everything you said EXCEPT your last line, 2 safes harder to get into than one. While it may take longer to get into 2, the first can be practice for the 2nd!!! :D

(pardon my silly sense of humor, please. You make great points.)

When I needed a second safe I ended up getting the same make and model as the one I already had.... sitting side by side bolted together. Had the combination for the second one set to match the first.

You have to look at the specs.
Most if not all brands have varying thicknesses of metal and thickness of door, locking lugs, etc.

And the gun capacity rating is generally way more than than reality.

I know this thread is for big safes but what about smaller ones. What brand. Was looking at the smaller gunvault one and the liberty HDX-250 Thanks for input

I bought a Redhead safe from Bass Pro shops and I heard it was made by the same company that makes Browning safes. I got a mechanical dial because many more people seem to have problems with digital locks and the Redhead safe also came with a thing on the the door for hand gun and document storage. Liberty safes sell these as an add-on for another hundred bucks. The main reason I bought the Redhead was because it was on sale plus I had about $430 worth of gift card points on my credit card that could be used at Bass Pro.
