My son and I are headed to Yorktown/Williamsburg for vacation starting Friday. Was hoping members on the forum could direct me to any good gun shops in the area. We are also heading to Norfolk and basically the entire tidewater area.

We are especially interested in military surplus and older collectables.

Thanks All

Hey, Bruce, good to see ya. There are two shops I try to hit whenever I get down that way.

Tidewater Military Traders
(aka Classic Firearms)
1329 Harpers Road
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23454
(757) 425-2827
This is the one you don't want to miss - it's almost more of a museum instead of a gun store. Lots of C&R, not much modern stuff. They also have online auctions regularly. Be sure to bring a copy of your C&R, they prefer it to a 4473. If I remember correctly, I've only made it out of here once empty-handed.

The Armory
5313 Indian River Rd. #114
757-424-1617
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23464

Pretty good mix of modern and older stuff. Usually pretty good deals on ammo; they will honor their lower online prices in the store if you ask.

Holy smokes... how have I never been there?!?

Thanks for the info,

Mark (C&R FFL holder)

There is Winfree's on rt 17 in Grafton, near Yorktown and a Glock store a little farther down in Newport News. Winfree's usually has a few old military guns, Mosins, etc but they are pretty high on their prices. If you can stand the cigarette smoke it's an ok place. If you are interested in military guns and stuff you have to visit the War Memorial Museum down by the James River Bridge. Lots of military uniforms, weapons and stuff from just about every war we have fought in.

Yeah, it's on Harper just down the street from Tomcat. There's a small business park just as you turn onto Harper, they are at the back. Open Carry friendly, too. They moved about two years ago from their location on South Colonial.

BruceHMX,
Glad to have you in the area visiting. I agree Bob's is great shop. I got my M&P9 from there.
If you are looking for a range with your gun shop, try A & P arms near Lynnhaven Mall. Best indoor range in the area. Never bought anything there, but seems to have large selection of new guns. Not much used.
Superior Pawn on Va Beach Blvd has a larger selection of used guns, and also has a good indoor range. Depending what the specials are that month, they can have some good prices.
If you want to see some long guns, there is a small shop near the oceanfront,Gunrunner LLC, right by the VB conference center. Really nice folks there, and they handle a lot of estate sales, consignments, etc. You might need to call (425-2936) first, as they were not open full time before they moved to the oceanfront.
There is a nice shop in downtown Suffolk, Southern Gun Works, which is almost exclusively collectibles, military stuff, and art work. Nice folks there too.
Good luck, and let us know what you find.

When my father was alive he was always going to Bob's in Norfolk. Bob's gun shop is fantastic! Robert (the owner) is constantly on TV and in the newspaper being very proactive for our second ammendment rights. He is always very articulate and puts a positive face for gun owners out here. His prices may are good and his staff is great. I can't say enough nice things about them.

I shoot regularly at A&P Arms (757 427-2627) and bought a 642-1 no-lock from them as well. I avoid going to downtown Norfolk (construction & traffic) and his prices were less than Bob's Gun Shop, however, with a gun purchase Bob's gives 10 free range passes, A&P only 5. There are probably 25 gun places in the Hampton Roads area if you include both the Peninsula and Southside.

Thanks all.

I just got off the phone with Tidewater Military Traders. They are open Sat and inventory won't be at a show. He has what we're looking for. Enfields!! Gonna be a busy vacation. Take Care
