Went to the gunshow today expecting to fine the same old crapola. It was there along with a few deals and crazy prices on ammo. I picked up this 1076, but the strange thing was the S&W presentation box it was in. I was unaware that these were sold this way,(if indeed it was a factory package).

Anyone ever seen one this way? It is in very nice shape, except for the nite sights; they are dead. Where can I buy replacement? Are there any nice aftermarket sights available for this gun?

I also picked up a Rossi pump .22 in nice shape for $220.00

Very nice find. I have never heard of these being in a presentation case.

Looks like it may very well have been a FBI gun, if the seller said that that is the way that he got it. Then the only thing that can come to mind is that it may have been given to a retired agent. Or bought buy the agent and he kept it in a presentation box.

On second thought, I didn't notice at first, but the grip is not cross groved so maybe it was given to a retired police officer instead.

The presentation case could very well be one from the S & W Website store, They are sold in two or three differnt sizes. I have purchased a couple of them for my revolvers. They have no cut out for the gun, just a plain blue foam insert. They're still very nice.

I recently bought a NIB 4053 form CDNN made in 1993. The night sights were also dead. They are made by Trijicon. Google to get thier contact phone #. I sent them just the slide, and for $54 they relamped the sights. you also get some color choice too. PM me if you have any other questions regarding the sights.

Thanks Dueeast, I checked their website and that is the way to go. I appreciate the info.

By the way, what is the story behind your "Dueeast" handle? Do you travel to the East?

"Due East" is the name of my boat. I live in NJ and fish in the ocean. Due east is just a compass heading.

If your night sights are Trijicons, send your slide to them and have them re-lamp them for you. Last time I did this it cost me $54.00...call them and see what the turnaround time is and how much it costs now. They even gave me a new 13 year warranty on the re-lamped sights!

Karnivore, early production FBI 1076s had grooves on the grip just like yours. I have several of them. The original test pistols also had the LE caution statement on the slide. The chances may be slim but I recommend you request a history letter. At a minimum you have a LE pistol and you will learn the agency. If you are willing to reveal the serial number I will check it against my list. Great find.

dcm8163, Thanks for the offer to check, the serial # is tfe42xx. Is that enough to verify. If you need the whole # I will email you.

growr, thanks for the info, I will be sending the slide to trijicon. 54.00 is a deal.

Thanks K.

DMC,

I called them.. gave the number and they told me where mine came from.. KY STATE POLICE. It was nice of them to tell me over the phone what dept it was issued to. Though.. mine does not have the laser roll mark on the slide.
