I know meaningless without pix. Found one of my bucket list round guns this weekend. 18-2 with original diamonds. 90%ish at $375. Thought I did OK.
What say you?

I think you did ok, I got one from GB last week also. A bit more than you paid but, still a good deal i feel. It shoots great!

Congratulations on your find. I thought the days of finding any revolver in 22lr for less than $400 was over.
My 18-4 is a great shooter, and yes I paid more than 375 for it in a shiny blue pristine condition.

Well I say good deal! Now then, you do know we need pic's and a range report. My 18 drove me nut's finding ammo it wanted to shoot, was about to give up on it untill I found what it wanted to eat.

Congrats, WHAT A BUY!

I've been looking for one. I've only found the $799.00 variety.
$375.00 What kind of mask did you wear? Will we see you on the 11 PM news?

Very decent deal. I just bought a 34-1 for $460. While not a great deal I just have not seen any used S&W .22LR of any model in my area. New 617's and such are around in the $700 and up range.

Here in Mass., a gun like that gets a much better price . I paid 500$ for one in 95% plus shape ,,,,no box/docs . I was happy to pay this as I have seen more $'S for uncommon Smiths .

IMHO the model 18 is the PERFECT first gun. It is easy to shoot, has negligible recoil, fires cheap .22 ammo, very accurate and will familiarize a novice with a revolver. That is the gun that I let someone shoot if they have never fired a handgun before. Perfect for female shooters as well, and makes the "step-up" to its big brother, M15 or M19 a natural. I wish Smith still made them, as I recommend that it be a first gun for anyone getting into the hobby. They are still available on GB and here on our Forum, but they are getting a bit pricey for a really nice one. Still worth the price as with a reasonable amount of care they will last a lifetime or two!

Use it in good health!

I guess its been a good week for model 18's! I finally found one down in Austin last weekend, 18-4 no box, great shape, $450...

Can't go wrong with a gun that will last forever if taken care of. Value may not skyrocket but will surely never go down. I think you got a steal. I love my 18-3.

Not to be inflammatory but I understood Chief38 completely. He is referring to the quality of a few years back, think prier to the blasted Internal Lock(IL) . I have to love my pre 17's and one of them shows it! Kyle

It must be the great 18 revival, I just put a 18-3 4" on layway while doing some bumming around at a local pawn shop. Got it for $375 also, no box or doc's but great condition with a trigger shoe already installed. I dont know much about the model 18, anyone care to school me? SN 1K989X Does anyone know when she was made?

About 1970. I have a 14-3 #1K23xx, an 18-3 1K63xx and a 15-3 1K10xxx. All have very nice fit and finish so it would seem like a good period of manufacture. Joe

You did great. I've had 4 or 5 over the years, great guns. Hit a coyote at 85yards once with one and broke it's back leg. Saw the same coyote out back for several years running around on three legs. Called him "Old tripod".
I'm looking for another 18 or pre 18 with TH, TT, RR and WI.
