Greetings to you all on this fine day.

I went to a good show yesterday. And while business was somewhat slow,
I managed to find small treasures hidden around.
Small meaning J frames. 3 of them.

First, a model 60-3 LadySmith 3 inch,Combat grips in the box.
BDE serial prefix manufactured March 1989.

Pictured here with sibling model 60-4 full target model made in 1994.

Then I find the elusive 317 no dash. An early 2 inch with forged parts
and no lock. It does not have a mark on it.

Then on a dealers table I'm perusing the new Smith revolvers,,,,,,,
I see the 625s lock, 686s lock, the 640s lock, I look and look.
Lock lock lock lock lock lock lock lock lock lock lock,,,,,,
Well, you get the idea.

Then, there is one with no lock. Wow. It's a 632 Pro. Wow.
I handle it and dig the engineering. Fit and finish is perfect.
Dovetailed night sights. Fluted 2 1/8" barrel with underlug. Wow.
I like it.

And the fact that it will fire 5 separate 32 caliber rounds is pretty
impressive in and of itself.
327 Federal mag. 32 H&R magnum, 32 S&W Long, 32 S&W , and 32 A.C.P.

So , I make the deal. Here it is, inside pictures, as it is raining cats and dogs.

I believe I am sending a message to Smith and Wesson that if they
produce no lock guns, I will buy them. Price notwithstanding.

The date on the envelope is 09-19-2011. The gun is 19 days old.

Da-yum, Allen, nice "trifecta". You must be livin' right!

I went to the Nashville show yesterday and saw several desirable guns. I was smitten by a clean 58 with nice blue. It had ti-ti holster rub on the edge of the barrel and someone had obviuosly cold-blued the slight turn line. The sellar, from whom I've bought multiple Smith's wouldn't budge off of $895.
He said that was a good price, but I think I rubbed him wrong when I responded, "Maybe in California!"

Looks like a great day to me! I honestly don't think Smith could keep up with the demand for no lock guns if they made them in all frame sizes. That .32 mag looks interesting, let us know how it shoots!

Great guns and photography Allen.

To be honest - I didn't know about the versatility of the .327 Mag., and I thought Ruger was the only revolver for it!

It is a good looking revolver.:)

The little 317 is a winner with that flat-top hammer and wood stocks.

Hey... gunshows ain't always about old N frames !!!

Well done! :D

Very nice!! That 19 day old gun is kinda cool, weird, different, unique, and just plain What in the?? Oh, I just went and cleared a spot on one of my pistol racks for that AWESOME .22 AirLite revolver!!! Subtle, I know, but that was a hint AF!!! ;)

very nice. always sort of liked the 60-4 guns but never got around to getting one when they came out.looks like you had a great show.

J frame trifecta

very interesting. i went on gunbroker and the 632's on there had the lock and a HAMMER. I am confused. I thought that if the gun was hammerless, a pistol with a hammer would have a different model number. Allen, you got 3 very hard to find pieces
enjoy them and let us hear anout range reports!!!

Allen's is the new 632 Pro. The 632 Carry Comp has the lock, a hammer, and is ported. And just to make it super confusing - the 632 Carry Comp can be had in stainless (like you'd expect from a "6" designation) and in Matte Black. One of those is likely what you saw on Gunbroker. There is also the original 632 from 1991 and 1992. It is a Centennial Airweight in .32 H&R Magnum. It looks much more like Allen's 632 Pro, but without the night sights and also available with a 2" barrel (1 7/8") or a 3" barrel. And it's an airweight.

Perhaps the 632 Carry Comps would have been better named the 631 Carry Comp and the 431 Carry Comp.

My 632 Pro has the same height front & rear Night Sights as the OP's - and hits 3-4" low with 85gr .327 Magnums at 7-12 yd - let us know where your's hits, please!

If the used guns with locks are shunned by some significant percentage of would-be buyers, then that disinclination to buy must be reflected in pricing -- they must be less expensive to buy. I wonder what the premium is for non-lock guns -- how much extra guys are willing to pay -- if the only difference is lock or no lock? I know there are other factors -- the MIM parts, the pinned and recessed factor, etc., yet still the lock factor has to be at least $50. More?

"... yet still the lock factor has to be at least $50. More?"

Not to hijack Allens thread but that's about a right amount of money in my opinion.

My next S&W will be a new 642 W/O a lock, the price is the same for an IL gun but I'd pay extra for the delete.

Allen pictures show how good the old profile looks on a new gun.

As my son would say, " I'd hit that! " :D

In regards to the lock- no lock pricing structure question;

I personally place a pretty high premium on the 90s era no lock revolvers,
especially the N frames. The difference in a no lock Mountain gun and
a lock model is $100. and more.
Of course the scarcity of any given model comes into play with regards to value.

Here is a 625-6 Mountain that did not sell for $710. plus shipping.
It is my opinion that it is worth much more.
And you certainly could not get one of mine for that or more.
They are just not for sale.

Smith & Wesson .45 Colt Mountain Gun 625-6 45 : Revolvers at GunBroker.com

But, I digress. We are not talking N frames here.

Simply put, I would not buy a 632 of any design with the I.L. I just don't
have any use for it.
I did pay $655. o.t.d. for this 632, and the jury is still out until I shoot it.
The fact that I handload 32 cal. revolver rounds helps.
It will be a fun shooter and good training tool for lady shooters.
Smith does not make a Centennial in 22 long rifle.:)
So 32 S&W long is the lightest training round for C.C. practice in a revolver.

Thanks for the lively discussion. Have no concern about hi jacking
this thread. It doesnt matter to me where it goes.

Stainz , I only have 2 boxes of Speer 115gr. gold dots to try in it.
I suspect it will shoot to point of aim with the heavier, slower bullet.

If Smith and Wesson creates a J frame in 22 Long Rifle without a
Saf-T-lock , I will buy it.Too.

Oh, wait, I did just buy a 317 :p. and for $450. No qualms. ;)
