Went to a small local show today that I always attend because our club supports it .

Mrs said enjoy yourself, but you never find anything at that show....

About the third table in I saw this M&P target. A little bit of finish issue on the frame, but the rest is nice, and the gun is tight. Now, I was not in the market for a 38 target, the guy asked $600, and I said I'd pay $500. He said Ok, so now she's ours. Serial number is 41489x i figure mid 1920's but i'll ask for a ship date. I can't find a number on the grips. Are these correct for this vintage?

A little while later, I spied this shiny M&P snub. A little dirty, but I thought it might clean up. Dickered a bit on the $500 asking, I offered $400, and he said the best he could do was $450....I said I'd have to think about it......time came to leave and I walked by, he called out, "it's still here" to which I replied "I told you my number." And he said lets split the difference, so for $425, I bought it. Serial is C14732x
It cleaned up nicely, but there were a few spots under the grips that have some issues.

All in all , good day. Two decent shooters at reasonable prices.

You made out like a fat rat on both of those. Assuming the snubby is kosher you made out REALLY well. (I confess that to my uneducated eye the barrel on the snubby looks altered. I am GUESSING it is cut down. It would be amusing to check and see if it numbers to the cylinder and frame.) In either case you got two interesting guns at a decent price and maybe a very decent price.

No, the snub is legit. All number match, including the grips.. it has the 'N' on the barrel and the cylinder. Nickel looks original.

Congrats on two great guns that look really fun to shoot.

I see your now dabbling more in the pre WWII targets :D

Be careful you might catch the bug!

Your MP Target will make a great companion for your 22 OD

Looking forward to shooting the target.

But, Rich, if I include my RP targets, this is the 5th pre WWII target for me. Six if you count my RM...seems I need a 38/44 Outdoorsman to round things out..

Must be nice to find something like the 2 you found at a local gun show. Nice catches. All I found at the last Berea show was a model of 1950 45acp. Give us a range report on the M&P, is it a 6 1/2" bbl?? Larry

It is a 6" barrel.

I have been to this show twice per year for three years and this is the only thing I have bought. There is a guy who exhibits every show who has a very nice selection of later model Smith & Wessons. His prices are on the high side, not terrible, but no bargains. His guns are very nice, but they are mostly guns I have or am not interested in. As an example, he had a model 10-5 snub, sq butt, nickel, excellent shape, $900. A nice gun, but no bargain.

I believe you lived around Pittsburgh Pa and expressed attending the NE Ohio Bunch at one point. You would have some nice displays to show off. The M&P looks like fun to shoot, love the long action. Larry

You made a really nice score on the M&P target IMO.

No way that I would have walked away from that deal.

I did. It seemed that the world conspired to keep me from those meetings as there was always some other thing deemed more urgent. Now I live in Florida, so the chance is slim that I can attend..

Just love those "local" small gun shows. Might not find anything 4 or 5 trips but always see friends and have a good time. Then there is the one time you find a a nice one. Makes it all worth while.
