Jefferson, GA is a small country town and the show brings in different folks than the Atlanta shows. The last time I set up there, last year, a guy came by and told me he had some S&W grips. Well, fine, bring them in. Fast forward to this morning and he shows up with not one set of cokes, but two sets!!

People bring S&W guns to me all the time but this is only the second time in 20 years anyone brought the special over sized targets. I will spend some time cleaning them, but they won't need much. In the mean time I took this snap shot to show them off.

He said he had some more grips, not cokes, that he will bring by tomorrow. I can't wait to see what he has this time.

Why are they called "cokes"?

The profile, as viewed from the rear are said to resemble the curve of the classic coke bottle.

OP: I hope you picked up both sets.

Edit to add: here’s a picture of my M57 showing the rear profile.

Yes, the swell was said to make them remiscent of the old-Style Coke bottle shape. At least to me, I never saw the resemblance. Closest I ever came to buying a pair was I nearly bought a .357 Model 27 that sported a pair. The owner and I couldn’t agree on a price.

BTW,the 1992 Cadillac Eldorado body style is also described as reminscent of the Coke bottle.
So now you are on the hook for a matching Caddy!

I can only remember the many intake manifold gaskets I replaced on the Cadillac 4100 and 4500 engines of that era from the early 80's forward...Since I can't stand the taste of Coke Zero, I'll refer you to Cad Zero...

As for Coke grips, I'm still looking for candidates to wear these......Ben

I decided to install the darker of the two sets on my early 44 Magnum, SN: S130881. After close examination I believe these are rosewood, while the other is obviously goncalo alves.

This old war horse was shipped to Beck & Gregg Hardware, Atlanta, GA on June 18, 1956.

Old bicycle grips are call "coke bottle" also. I was talking with a guy last weekend at a local gun show, and he asked what I was looking for, I told him I'd like to find a set of "coke bottle" grips, said he had a "PILE" of coke bottle grips that I could have. You can imagine the disappointment when I stopped by to see/get them.

So is life.
