Considering posting in the Guns for Sale section with the intent of making a trade. Once an agreement has been made, how do you all go about conducting the trade? Buying is easy, I send the money and they send the gun to my FFL. Any input appreciated.

I did a gun trade here once.

I had my FFL ship to his FFL.

He had his FFL ship to my FFL.

I've since sold off the gun I received to another forum member...and bought an identical one to replace the one I traded!

I've done a gun trade a couple of times.

I shipped though my FFL, even though it wasn't required, because he could mail it for about 15, instead of my UPSing it for 75.

You just have to trust the other guy. I made the agreement, then took the gun and a shipping box to my dealer. He logged my gun into his book, then logged it out to the other guy's dealer, packed it up and sent it. I presume the other guy did the same thing. You could, I suppose, wait until the other guy's gun shows up, before shipping yours, but that seems like a really tacky thing to do.

and wait and wait and wait because he is doing the same thing.

Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and believe your fellow man isn't going to rip you off.

I traded a gun with a fellow here who is a friend. I UPSd the gun to his FFL, and he UPSd his gun to mine. I think we did it simultaneously.

I don't think I'd trade with someone who didn't have a decent track record of posting and who hadn't made me comfortable with him.

I did a trade with an old boy down in Texas a month ago. He chose to send through a FFL. I packed mine up and went to a shipping agent. Cost me 35.00 insured for $1,000.00. He got mine and I got his and I suppose we are both pleased. I think the big thing is communicate the exact and honest condition and terms of the trade. If a cootie is nesting in the action, say so; don't wait for your trading partner to discover it on his own.

I would not send a firearm without recieving payment first. If you list the firearm for sale or trade, I think it would be expected that I send the payment or my trade first. If the person has perfect feedback and is well known, I may choose to ship at the same time.

If somebody wants to play the "who is going to ship first" game...deal's off. If there's no trust, it ain't worth it.

Maybe have both FFl holders do the transaction for you.they could verify condition of gun and agreement of transaction.everybodies happy.gunnut2u
