Saw this on GB and I made a token bid.
It was described as a box for a NM3 but the dimensions didn't fit
I think it is for a 38 SA 2nd model ??
It is a fine box. There is a # on the back but so far I can't read it

It does look like a .38 Single Action Second Model box, or at least like mine.

Is there evidence of a label at the end of the box?

The 2nd Model box had a top label much like the Baby Russian box. Most of these boxes that are found are missing that label. I believe that the horsehide glue failed and these labels were lost to time. There are others that think that the box manufacturer dropped the labeling sometime during their manufacture. The inside label supports the top label theory as it refers to "For Letters refer to the Cut on this Box" and "...raise the barrel catch, A.". Attached are photos of the top label.
