Why is Gunbroker trying to charge me $2.50? I'm talking principle here.

That is a new one. Be careful that this is not some kind of scam run by somebody who has either hacked the GB site or is using bogus sales to collect CC numbers while masquerading as GB in emails. I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I do have a suspicious mind.

Go to the Gunbroker site and move the curser to "My Gunbroker" .... that should bring up several options underneath. One of the options will be "billing information"...click on that and it should show if Gunbroker is showing you owing them anything.

That's what I'm suspecting.

I got the same thing a couple of months ago. It seems they did it as a credit card check of some kind if you want to set up an account. I did not want to give them a credit card, so I mailed them a check. It was legit.

I get an email every month. It clams to be 'Gunbroker'. It's in the form of an invoice. It tells me I owe $3 and if I don't send a payment in 30 days the $3 will be billed to my credit card.
It has never showed up on my cc. It is a scam. I just ignore it.

That's if you want to be "verified" on by them and appear as such on their site. Unless the OP asked for this during his transaction, then this smells scammy to me.

Their response said the $2.50 was for extended verification. I've purchased probably 6 guns on their site and have a A+ rating so what's to verify? I think I'll ignore. Is there anyway of calling these people?

I just logged into the site with no problem, even told me welcome. I guess I'll see next time I place a bid.

I just checked my status and my account has been terminated, what's up with that? I wish you could talk to a person.

I think they charge $1 or a small fee for just joining don't they?

Yes they do, depending on your IP. It's for verification purposes, to make sure you're who you say you are. I paid this once and have never had any other charges appear on my cc.

I did that too as part of the registration process, but it was several years ago. I'm pretty sure I was credited for it on my first transaction. A $2.50 charge sounds fishy to me.

This is the optional extended member verification "Badge" fee which you agreed to. Its described here:
GunBroker.com - Help Center

Note where it says "There is a fee to initiate the verification process."

Go to gunbroker and look up auction # 275193586
Note how the seller has both the verified member badge and the FFL badge next to his name.

I have bought rifles there and have never been dunned for money. They send a statement with no balance every month but I think they do that to remind you they are there and ready to do business. If you sell anything they have a charge.
