Have an upcomiing trip to Phoenix. Last time out there I found a rifle to buy but was no problem as it was at Cabela's who shipped it back to our local Cabela's free. Question is: If I find a long gun out there is it best to USPS mail it to myself or does anybody know US Airways policy on checking it in with my baggage? I know I'll have to buy an airlines approved case but was wondering if US Airways was anti-gun in any way with their policy. THanks for any help here.

PS - It is legal here in PA for me to buy out of state and according to the ATF website it is legal to ship a long gun to yourself US mail.

You will need a lockable gun case. When you arrive at the airport check in let someone know you have a weapon to check in ,they will contact a TSA agent to check the gun in.You cannot put ammo in the same case as the gun but are allowed to put it in your checked in baggage (up to 10 lbs of ammo I believe).I pulled the bolt out of my rifle and put it under the foam padding wrapped in a cleaning rag.It is really simple to fly a long gun provided you follow a few simple rules.
