I listened to his podcast this afternoon and had the following impression:

1). We need millions, many tens of millions to join NRA, since he pretty much gave away one-year membership to any kid calling in, this gave me the impression vast majority of gun-owners (listen up, non-NRA gun owners) are really not enthusiastic, this must change, we need to reach out to them, our best weapon against any further encroachment of 2A.

2). His show focus mainly on issues we care about, such as the NJ's overreaction to facebook picture, etc. but may I suggest he and other leading members also talk about counter offensive, such as legislations that can potentially improve public safety, such as school patrolling by cop, nation-wide CCW permit. Also focus on stupid laws designed to harass people (instead of improving safety), there are many in liberal states, here is another stupidity: Pop-Tart Pistol?: 7-Year-Old Gets Suspended for Gun-Shaped Pastry - Hit & Run : Reason.com I mean this is total insanity. I must add democrats are their own enemies because their so-called common sense law are almost always ludicrous (designed for the sole purpose of disarming the American people) and alienate people like me.

3). Reach out to the general public, we gun owners also should be careful. Things such as open-carry is not good idea because many people are afraid of firearms no matter what, so we should get rid of gun-free zones and allow CCW. In terms of school, CCW for school employee and the most experienced gun-owners (need to apply and get approved by school, there must be a minmum number of guns on school property 24/7), average CCW guy carrying Glock to school is bad idea because he may be taken as the perpetrator and get killed by the cop. For Aurora shooting, if there were 20 good guys with guns, it would be mayhem. Maybe experienced gun-owners and ex-cops can explain better, I am 100% for CCW, yet things must be done to avoid cross-fire with cops (maybe confined area need a new rule regarding CCW, such as CCW owners must inform the business operator and business operator must allow CCW folks or risk being sued). Maybe NRA can play the leading role to improve public safety at Cinemas, malls, etc. Public safety is equally important as our 2A.

4). Avoid extreme measures such as forcing employer to allow guns on company property. I think it should be up to the employer to decide, because employer naturally is like an individual, they should have choices.

Bloomberg is spending 1.2 million, I am totally pissed off, because liberal media will not allow any counter-attack, and the Bloomberg message would dominate the discussion on airwave, NRA need to act now, and we need to support them during this difficult period!!!! We must not allow these liberals exploting the blood of these innocent kids to advance their agenda, which is to disarm us!!!!!!!!

Tom, are you here? :-)

Yes, I'm here.

It's $12 million, not $1.2 million that Bloomberg is spending.

On your point number 3, where have you seen or heard of a "crossfire" between good guys with carry permits and the police?

This is the kind of imaginary boogyman that the gun banners love. I have not heard of this happening. I do know of cases where someone with a carry permit saved police officers.

I'm glad you found the radio show (you actually discovered the archives of a national radio show carried on 140 stations and XM satellite). But, I would offer that you may not want to draw conclusions about what we do on that show by listening to only one show. I've been on the air with Gun Talk for more than 18 years.

Smith & Wesson, by the way, was the first sponsor. When I first brought up the subject, and I had no show, no idea what I was going to do, and certainly did not have any advertising rates, the response from S&W was, "If you are doing a talk show about guns, we're in!).

That was in 1995. Many of the past shows (years' worth) can be found at guntalk's Podcast.

My response:

I would send $10 to NRA on Monday, even I am short on cash right now. I am utterly disgusted by him spending that much money to influence public opinion. If he is a real man, he should use his fortune to buy up Freedom group and shut it down (he would have to spend a lot of money and these ex-employees could easily start other companies, this mean a huge black hole on his wallet achieving his real goal: to dry up firearm market)

On your point number 3, where have you seen or heard of a "crossfire" between good guys with carry permits and the police?

My response: Tom: With all due respect, consider the situation in Aurora cinema, if 15 people carried pistol that night, yes, the bad guy may be injured/killed (Gun toting criminals deserve head shot), but also inexperienced CCW owner was likely to injure bystanders (lots of lawsuits later on), and in a chaotic situation, a good guy can easily be mistaken as the bad guy (how would you know there was only one criminal at that time? ). Also when cops arrive, you know they would assume everyone is a potential threat and how would you address that?
I would suggest PD nationwide issue something such as Super-carry (>10y experience with shooting, pass mental and background test, and coordination training with police) and no commercial premise can reject super carry gun-owner unless they have onsite security (or they get sued by CCW owners should there be another mass-shooting). I strongly support 2A and want Congress to get rid of gun-free zone laws, but that does not mean I want average guy to carry guns to schools (of course someone like you would be super good. :D ). Maybe NRA can engage such discussions with law enforcement and work out a proposal and present it to the public. Not only it has to make good sense in terms of security, it also should be reasonable to the public so NRA can get public support to fight gun-grabbers. (Wayne's suggestion to arm school with security is very reasonable to me, but he need to explain to the public better because w/o clearly defined plans, it does sound radical to a lot of people)

BTW, I watched your videos online, I must say I really like them. And I got this feeling: I would definitely want to befriend with that guy lol. :D

The system has problem, it always tell me I need to lengthen my message to at least 10 characters, despite my response is very lengthy!!!! Can someone correct this?
