Gunvault or no?

So, I have my M&P 9c in a pretty good hiding place but it takes several moves to get to it. I'm thinking that using a Gunvault 1000D in a more accessible place might be the answer. The reason for the 1000D model is I like the spring out door as opposed to the 500 where I'd have to lift it.

  • In a safe but a more accessible place my firearm would be in my hands quicker in a situation than it is now.
  • I do not have children, or other other curious hands that might accidentally be near my firearm.
  • I am concerned that if someone does break into my house that they could find and use my firearm against me. If it's in a safe, I'm thinking that at least they might just steal the safe and break into it later on.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you have already answered your question. If you think the vault would be better, then it will. No reason to second guess yourself. There is nothing wrong with having the gun secured, as long as you can get to it easily, which the safe/vault allows. I would not suggest against any type of safety product.

Totally agree. The gun vault safes are great and serve the exact purpose that you describe.

Yea, I guess it looks like that but it really wasn't intentional. Looking back on my post I should have put more "pro"s and "con"s.

Thanks for the help guys!

I own the Gunvault 500. I prefer the low profile. It fits under the car seat and I can access weapons (full size XD 45 & Shield) in 2 seconds.

I made a tab of black duck tape I grab when spring loaded lid pops open.

Gunvault Pictures with Duck Tape Tab

Gunvault 500 rocks.

The low profile fits under the front seat of my Honda Accord.

I made a tab (see pictures)from black duck tape that makes it quick to flip the spring loaded lid after I enter combo.

I would recommend not to buy the bio (fingerprint) reader. Too many false reads from my research.

My Gunvault holds my full size Springfield XD and Shield.

I'll say that I am VERY happy with my Barska safe... I have seen too many videos of the gun vault failing.

I Googled Barska and came up with bio metric safes.

They look well made. I opted to stay clear of finger print reader safes due to false reads especially with the Gunvault.

I have never had a failure with my $70 Gunvault in the 2 years I have owned it and I would guess I have opened or closed it 3, 000 times on the same battery.

I would recommend keeping the keys on audible if your code consists of pressing the same key more than once in sequence.

I decided to set a code that does not use the same key in sequence and leave the keys on audible. Not once has it not opened the first try set audible and one touch per key code.

i have the gunvault the op is talking about on my dresser, if i had to do it over again i would buy one of those sentry .8 or 1.2 cu ft little digital safes that are about the size of a milk crate. they are about 50 bucks more than the gunvault and bigger of course. I would put it in the closet and that would be a better option for my situation.
That said the gunvault has worked for me every time, but from what i have seen the last couple of days about how sturdy they are has me rethinking this plan.
I have the single unit, not the two gun one, and there are times when i need to put 2 in at once, which works but neither can be in a holster, and you have to watch the triggers very carefully of course. With the little sentry i can put a few guns in there and still have fast access, also the sentry i looked at was drop rated for 15 ft. the gunvault would never survive that.
we all know that if somebody wants to steal it they will, thats my 2 cents
good luck

I just purchased the Sentry Safe quick access pistol safe and like it so far. Just enter your code and door pops open.

I have three large safes and two smaller ones. I wanted a small safe that could hold about 6 pistols so I could put my house guns away really fast when my grandson visites. I found a .8 cf Sentry fire & waterproof safe on sale for $99.99 @ Staples shipped to my door. Really does the trick. I think it's about 80 lbs. and the electronic lock is really fast to access. I think the reg price is $209. The nice part is I did not have to pick up the safe and transport it home. The delivery guy put it right in my walk in closet. I am very happy with it.

Good point

The Gunvault is not a safe. If a bad guy wacked it with a sledge hammer he borrowed from your garage she will open. Gunvault is made to keep curious children safe.

My routine. When I leave the house the gun goes with me, when I come home I take it off and it's in the night stand. If I must go someplace un armed it gets thrown in the safe bedside. The finances gun stays in a quick action safe bedside because she does not carry.

I agree with kblamo! When I am in my bedroom in my bed, with the door locked, that 624 is laying open on my bedside table. I figure if someone comes through the locked bedroom door it will have me wide awake before he or she can get to my bedside and steal it or do me bodily harm with it!

Very nice for the shotgun.

How much with freight?

Does the open lid clear the bed frame?

Russ

The lid flops forward off the side. There is a photo on that link.

I was wondering about what kind of "weird bolt" you could get to anchor it or if it comes with them. Because it "looks" like the bolts go down through the upper four corners of the case and down through it into the floor. I suppose you could use hardened carriage bolt. The holes do look square. The hardest part would be missing the floor joists below.:D

Concrete anchor bolts is all you need. I used the same ones i anchored my big gun safe down with. The vault has a drawer style door (it rolls out) or slides out whichever u want to call it. Basically what i did, i placed my vaults under my bad where i wanted them. Opened the vault door or removed it used a black sharpie to mark the anchor holes. Slid my bed out of the way, and then slide the vaults out of the way. Took my concrete drilling rig and drilled my anchor holes (my house is a 1 story with a cement slab). After they were drilled, I beat my anchors down into the cement with a hammer then i placed my vaults back over the anchors (door opened or removed). Grab urself a socket and ratchet that fits through the holes pre drilled on the (top) of the vault. Tighten the anchor bolts down, now ur vault is anchored to the floor. Close your vault door and now u are good to go.

The anchor bolts are not accessible when the door is closed on the vault. The door basically slides over the anchor bolts and thus prevents the bolts from being removed when the vault is locked.......Although each vault weighs 75lbs (without any weapons). But its never bad idea to anchor down any type of safe. Hell my AmSec gun safe weighs 1200lbs and i still have 4 anchor bolts in it, lol
