H-110 and W-296 Are Not The Same Part Deux, or Dux, or Ducks

Well, 19 lbs of H110 is a lot without a doubt. That's over 8,000 .357 Magnum rounds worth of powder. That's a lot of .357 Magnum ammo even for me! LOL

Dragon88 and Alk8944,

How do you test your ammunition, either factory or reloads, to determine which is the most accurate in your handgun?

Now I have given it a few days to respond civilly, I hope, Let me remind you that it was you who has continued to claim to be able to differentiate variations in performance between two identical, but differently labeled propellants. Information I received from the individual I spoke with at St. Marks Powders remarked that H-110 and 296 can be so identical as to have been shipped to both Hodgdon and Winchester/Olin from the same manufacturing lot.

The issue, as defined by you, is your claimed ability to see a quantifiable difference between these powders, when the manufacturer, which possesses far more sophisticated testing equipment than do you, states that they are absolutely identical.

That is the question, not how I, or Dragon 88 "test" our ammunition.

I always used H 110, never 296. [Not that I have anything against 296]

As others have stated, while they may be the same manufacture, they do differ lot to lot.

Look in any factory reloading manual and almost never do they show the same max charge.

The reason, they are shooting different "lots".

Howevere here is another "Twist.

I have a buddy, that shoots a lot of the BIG magnum handguns.

ALL he cares about is MUZZLE FLASH. Well maybe not ALL, but MOST ALL...

He will load his Magnums with light for calibre bullets, with max loads of powder, and shoot them in the indoor IPSC matches I used to shoot with him so to get the MOST muzzle flash.

He always told me that with H110 and WW296 one ALWAYS gave more muzzle flash.

He also said one was more orangish, the other more white.

I think I remember which one was the biggest and brightest, but I do not know for sure. I do know when I saw him shoot them side by side I could tell quite a bit of difference.

I do have some WW 296 that was given to me years ago, I guess I need to get it out and load some of it up with the old H110 I have and give it a test for myself...

If you mix H110 and W296 together, you get pink muzzle flash.
