I know this is a Smith & Wesson forum bit I’ve tried elsewhere for info and got nowhere. I figured the seasoned gun enthusiasts here could help.

I recently purchased a fairly modern H&R revolver very similar to H&R Model 676. However, it is in 4mm RANDZ caliber. It came with 2 tin containers of 4mm rimfire cartridges.

The gun is in excellent condition, sporting a beautiful color case hardened finish and after close inspection, seems to have never been fired. It came in its original box but the owner’s manual was missing.

As stated earlier this gun is very similar to the H&R Model 676 DOUBLE action. Its serial number is HL0003XX. According to info I have found so far HL prefix means H=H&R & L= 1997.

I’ve searched for catalogs and manuals for this model, "ARMY", and found nothing. And since H&R/NEF is out of business there's no company to submit inquiries. The previous owner was of no help as he had some unsubstantiated "story" that there were only 500 of these made. I didn’t care too much about the story as the gun piqued my interest so I had to have it. I sensed its rarity and never heard of the caliber before so it went home with me.

I cannot find any information on this revolver anywhere. I've attached several pictures. The barrel markings are very interesting and I only found one, an F inside a pentagon which is a German mark for a pellet gun or firearm with restricted muzzle energy.

BTW, it is not a CO 2 pellet gun as some have suggested. I did disassembled the gun for closer inspection and it accepts the 4mm rimfire cartridge.
I would appreciate any feedback on this gun and if anyone knows the origin of the other roll mark on the barrel, a square with the letters TPB and 651.

Cool little gun! 4mm Flobert is what you need. It's available mostly in europe although some is for sale on GB..at $1/round..yikes! That revolver was made about 10 miles from where I live. With a bar code on the box,I'm guessing it was made in the 80's-90's.

Wow, never heard of it until now. Ammo might be hard to find.

I looked it up and found this video, interesting.

I have seen 4mm RF cartridges, but have no personal familiarity with the handguns using it. The cartridge itself is similar to the .22 BB cap but smaller. The case has no propellant, only the priming compound. Apparently guns in that caliber are unregulated as firearms in some European countries, i.e., they are treated like a BB gun because of their low power. Apparently H&R must have made some revolvers in 4mm for sale on the European market. It would be surprising to find one of those H&R revolvers in the USA. I have never heard of one.

In Europe and especially Germany, they shot 4mm rifles in bars like the English play darts! RWS still makes ammo in tins of 200. Make sure you know when ordering weather it is Rim Fire or Center Fire as both are available.

The RF cartridge is powerful to kill a small animal at 50 yards, so they require standard (real) gun safety! A friend didn't intend to kill a Canada Goose in his pond! (Just trying to make it go elsewhere.)

Seen many European guns for 4mm rf but never a revolver, US or foreign.
Never saw 4mm center fire that was Folbert type cartridge. Back in 70-80
Century Arms was good source for that type of thing. We use to buy RWS BB caps but haven’t seen them for years.

I'm still having a hard time with this roll mark. Dont know if it's a factory identification mark or country's import proof mark

An HL prefixed serial number indeed indicates an H&R branded gun manufactured in 1997 under the aegis of New England Firearms. As for the PTB marking, PTB = Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (German National Metrology Institute). It most likely indicates conformance of the barrel's composition and heat treating to a particular specification or standard.

That’s pretty cool! I wonder if they stamped the markings at the factory in the US and it never got exported or if it got re-imported. Either way I bet there are way less than 500 of them in the US.

Just got a response from a user on another forum. PTB and 651 are now identified.
Apparently then not metallurgical in nature but rather simply #651 on PTB's list of weapons certified for sale in Germany.
