H&R "Trapper Model" 6" .22 Rim Fire - Neat little gun!!

Came across one of these recently at the LGS and the condition was such that I decided to bring it home.

I don't usually stray far from S&W's but this little piece caught my interest.

It's has a 6" octagon barrel and the cylinder holds 7 rounds and the cylinder drops out for loading/unloading. Double/single action and has oversized wood target stocks that sort of remind me of a Regulation Police.

Retains most of it's original finish with some freckling. The bore is pristine as are the cylinder chambers.

Have not taken it out yet, but will soon.

That is a neat gun. I like those octagon barrels. My grandpa gave mom an IJ with a barrel and cyl. like that. My brother now has it and it has been years since I shot it but IIRC it shot good. I'll bet you will be pleasantly surprised when you shoot it. Larry

Several years ago, my dad had a cook out for his friends. The guys all brought 22 revolvers, and had an informal match. The only gun that outshot the 2 or 3 H&R's was a pre war K-22. Dad's 1980's Colt Diamondback, came in last. While he was a good host and usually a good sport, being last didn't set well with him! (He was a much better shot than that!)

Very cool. That seems almost exactly like the first gun I ever shot, which belonged to my grandfather back in the early 80s. I think his had different grips, though.

EDIT: after a quick google, I think his was a 922.

The 922's are very common......9-shot hence the "9"22

Nice Tom, would definitely need a range report. Guy at the club enjoyed these for years. Always wanted a H&R Sportsman 999, like the way it opens to eject. Good way to take it easy while recuperating is visit the range. Larry

My first handgun was an H&R 676. Wish I'd never let it go.

and yes... yours is a neat gun... probably very accurate too...

I have the 922, which is basically the same pistol, but the Trapper is a smaller frame than the 922. The 922 is the one on the bottom and made around 1947. Trappers were made from 1924-1941. H&R changed from that style of grips you have, called the Saw Handle style, to the style my 922 has around 1940 or so. The Trapper had the octagonal barrel shape throughout its production.

They are fun little guns, but I have a heck of a time sighting it in because the front sight is so skinny!
