Up early to get to the range when they open at 9am. Breakfast, equipment check and out the door around 8:15. Halfway there all the idiot lights come on, fan spinning, "engine hot A/C shut off". Except temp is bottomed out. I've had 3 thermostats since new and knew that's what it is. Turned back for home, 2 different auto parts stores, 1 for the stat, 1 for the gasket. An hour and back on the road, 11:30. PO'd that 1st time the dealer said "2 weeks out of warranty, $300." 2nd one was $130, $10 part 1 hr $120 rack rate. Today's was $10 and a total of 3 hours detour. Get out to the firing line about noon and noticed both the Ruger MKII and 34-1 were producing nice tight groups about 6" high and 4" left. The Ruger has fixed sights and the 34 is down to the bottom so I adjusted by aiming at the lower right quadrant and was rewarded with hits on the shoot-n-see. Broke out the CZ P07 and loaded 49 rds in 3 mags. I'm filling them to capacity to see if they fail. Cut my trigger finger pretty good on the sharp lips. Zero failures and I can get a full box into 2 17 rd mags and a 15 rd if I top off. About 320 rds through it so far (100 today) and If I do my part the bullets hit where I aim it. I can trust it for carry after 1 more outing. Didn't notice a wad of blood on the 34 (must have happened when I opened it for cold range). Not more than 15 minutes but it left a mark. Didn't break out the Model 15 because of the bleeding. Who needs "microstamping" technology, every empty had plenty of my DNA on 'em, thanks Eliquis. On the plus side, the weather was/is perfect. Glad you made it to the Range! 3 thermostats??!!! Hmmmm, makes me think either the brand you're using is very bad or that there is something causing them to fail prematurely. Have you changed the coolant? Any special additives? Maybe a dirty or faulty radiator contaminating the coolant?? Something is obviously causing them to fail.

One of my days.

We all think, why is this happening today? There's times I think this will be the death of me.

On shooting high, I've found myself using to little grip tension causing it. Not limp wristing, simply not a firm enough grip to keep even a light recoil load from rolling back in my hand.

This was recently discovered while shooting a Ruger Blackhawk with faux ivory stocks. Grouped great, just high. I knew this piece hadn't exhibited this trait in the past. A firmer grip and viola, shooting the center bull out again.

Had a complete service Summer 2020. New everything. Lost a lot of (hot!) coolant changing the stat yesterday. Replaced.

Yeah, my grip ain't what it once was, especially with small guns. Considering I was technically dead last Aug 11, I'm claiming a "win" just sending lead downrange. There probably be no more pix of my groups going forward though. Joe

If your term of "temp is bottomed out" means it said engine wasn't hot then I would be questioning the "brain box" of the vehicle.
You said you turned it around and drove home so it must not have been over heated.
Might just be a bad temp sensor.

Apparently it worked as it's supposed to (according to YouTube). It wasn't hot at all. The thermostats are designed to "fail open" according to the same YouTube vid. Don't know how I survived so long without YouTube. Joe

2010 Chevy Silverado 4.3 V6, 96K miles. It's kinda warm here about 9 months of the year. Joe

Sounds more like typical "General Maintenance" parts quality. I had an earlier version of that motor in a late 80s S-10 Blazer. I suffered so much weirdness with the knock sensor system I eventually unplugged the lot and switched to mid-grade (pre OBD2). Thing went like a scalded cat after that.

Too bad they didn't bother to design it to not fail at all.
