Not sure if this is the right section.

Any source for Half Moon clips? I see a lot of new manufacture full moons but I like using the half moons at the range, it's easier to get the cartridges in and out with my fingers.

All I see is some on Ebay and Numrich that wants $5 a pair.

They're for a S&W.

I didn't know ranch products did the half moons, they only show on their website that they make full moons for S&W guns, but their site does leave a little to be desired. I'll send them a message, thanks!

Yeah, that's weird. I know for certain that I have ordered full and 1/3 moon clips from them, and I thought I had ordered some 1/2 moon clips too.
You're right about their site - never has been anything to brag about ;)
Good products and good folks easy to work with though.

Ranch Products makes them. His clips are inexpensive but work very well.

That's why I shoot the Auto Rim version in my guns , I hate clips of any kind . Hard to load and hard to unload them . Someone just sold a whole bar, as issued , on another forum for $175.00 . Not sure how many sets to the bar but it's a plumb bunch.

Generally, no clips are needed if you don't mind plucking fired .45 ACP cases out with your fingers. I find the old WWII steel cased ammo sticks too tight in the chambers to remove easily. I believe some of the early Colt M1917 cylinders are bored straight through, so some type of clip would be needed for them.

You know that's right, at least they (Ranch Products) used to offer 1/3 and half moon clips. But its been many moons (sorry couldn't resist) since I have purchased any. If you're careful they tend to last forever.

And actually DWalt is right. I shoot a S&W so clips aren't needed, and I generally don't nother for Bullseye shooting. The empties just fall out of the gun when I tip it up. But of course I'm talking powderpuffs, 200 gr LSWC @700fps. Ball type loads or IPSC major power may not drop free so easily.

I've never tried shooting with no clips, my only .45 ACP revolver is a brazilian contract 1917 that I only shoot occasionally. But I have a much more modern one on the way I plan to shoot more, so I wanted some clips for some faster reloads. But yeah for slow fire accuracy I'll probably just use no clips. I was going to get some AR brass but besides not being able to find any I already have tons of ACP brass to use, so I think I'll forget about the AR brass.

Well I couldn't get ahold of ranch products at all, but I did the next best thing and just bought a BMT mooner, that thing is pretty fantastic. I ordered 100 full moons so I'd have plenty. Spent some time loading them.up last evening, BMT mooner made the process actually enjoyable.

As an aside, has anyone noticed that some brass works better than others? I was using some ammon I loaded in winchester cases and it was floppy for lack of a better word. The federal and speer cases I have are much better.

Look up Rimz moon clips . Made out of polymer, for range use only.
Easy peasy to load and unload.
I think about. $38 for ten clips.
Best,
Gary
