Tonight is the hallowed eve of the holiest day of the year. 8 hours and 8 minutes from now will be shooting time for the opening day of the 2011 duck season in the west zone of Louisiana. The blinds are brushed, the suburban is loaded, the decoys were put out at last light a few hours ago. Clothes are laid out. I will awake at 4:00 dress-pick up do nuts hot from the grease for the rest of the hunting party and meet the guys at the gate at 5. This will be the 33rd opening day on these ponds. The only one I missed was in 1983 when I got married.
Life is indeed good!
