WOW, I must have missed something..At the grocery stores in my area, 80% lean went from around $2.49 per lb to over $5.00...What the heck happened in just 4 weeks or so ?

What is the price for 80/20 hamburger meat in your area ?

Occasionally 80/20 will be on sale for $1.99 to $2.49, but the regular price is $4.00 - $4.50 per lb. I buy several pounds when it's on sale and form it into hamburger patties or 12 oz. blocks, wrap each in plastic wrap, and freeze in freezer bags. The price of beef has skyrocketed over the last three years.

It's the cost of grain, everything will be going up, hamburg here is about 4.49 lb, I can remember when it was .49 lb:mad:

You ain't seen nuthin' yet. 20,000 head died in winter storms this year.

Price of feeder cattle and feed is out of sight.
Cattlemen are trying to rebuild their herds. Heifers are higher than a cat's back.

Some can't afford it and are selling their family ranches and farms. That means fewer critters coming to market in the future, and more demand.

Those that can are buying what is available, but it will take years to rebuild their cow herds.

It may come down in a year or so, but it isn't a pretty picture right now.:(

If you wanna git rich, figger out a way of converting asphalt and concrete into sumthin' folks can and will eat.

Well that really sucks. Sorry to here that . It's depressing.:(

Never could understand how farmers and ranchers can make it these days. Giant companies buying up everything, but somehow we can send aid all over the World and people starve here??

winter kill

An EARLY BLIZZARD killed cattle out Montana and Dakotas way I thought?

The National Guard in South Dakota actually had to help clear all the dead cows from one of the storms in western So. Dakota. Some ranchers lost 90%or more of their stock

I pay 7.00 a pound for ground beef from the farm near me. Since my wife doesn't eat much burger and the kids are grown up and gone I don't need to buy a lot. Far superior to what the supermarket sells.

Not sure here? I bought 2 one pound packages of 98% lean/2% fat--store brand--$6 bucks each. What blows my mind is sky-rocketing prices on Chicken!!!
