You didn't provide very much information about the problem. "New" as in new to you or brand new out of the box?

Possible causes would be shooting debris/dirt, debris under the extractor, cylinder alignment, B/C gap too tight/contact between the barrel and the front of the cylinder, loose extractor rod, extractor rod runout.....to name a few common ones. The list goes on and on.

If the mainspring strain screw backs out, the mainspring will straighten out and at the rear of the cocking arc, it will bind with the stirrup. Check the mainspring strain screw located on the frontside bottom of the gripframe. You may have to remove the grips to find it.

Can't tell you what would be wrong, there are several possibilities that come to mind, most revolving :D around lubrication issues. But I can tell you what is probably wrong, and that is the strain screw has loosened as the two above suggest. Check this and come back if it doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks mate good news turned main spring screw half a turn and good as gold Iwas concerned because its a brand new 686 now I learned more very happy thank you very much. regards terry.

Now tighten it all the way as it is supposed to be! The strain screw is intended to pre-load the mainspring. In spite of what you might see on the Internet it is not an adjustment, and shouldn't be used as such!
