I saw a video that a guy used a tool that appears to come from Brownells. It puts a smooth face on the hammer pin bearing surface, and another tool that puts a smooth surface on the trigger pin bearing surface. Does anybody have any knowledge about what I’m talking about? Ever use one? Did it work well? Is there a better way? I would appreciate some information.

Thanks

You might mean the hammer pivot pin.

If you mean the hammer nose retention pin, it's actually a rivet. If it's not 'set' correctly and flush with hammer sides, it digs into the sides of the hammer slot and chews up the frame.

The other tool is rarely needed to clean up the trigger pivot pin unless it's been replaced and needs fitting.

Call Brownells and ask to speak to a tech.

The tools are available from Power Custom.

Gunsmith Tools : GrandMasters L.L.C., Gunsmithing, Ruger 10-22, AK-47, Ruger, AR-15, Ruger Accessories, Gunsmithing Tools and Gun Accessories

The hammer and trigger rotate on studs in the frame and are camming on bosses....one at the base of the stud itself, and one on the sideplate. Power Custom advises these cutters are used to..... " go over your Smith and Wesson K,L,N,&J frame hammer pivot to cut a precision square surface. Excellent when adding the Power Custom S&W Hammer shims to keep your trigger side to side movement to a minimum. Also can be used with our Yoke Sleeve (Sold Separately) to true up your S&W Yoke Face. A very handi universal tool."

Although I have a yoke facing reamer, I've never had to use these particular cutters, so I can't comment on their effectiveness. Unless you are adding shims on top of the boss, and need to reduce it's height, I don't see the need for them.

GrandMasters needs a new Webmaster. Some of their links to order lead one to the wrong site, i.e., S&W frame wrench blocks. Try to order a size other than K frame.
