Help! I was using my 1905 3rd change the other day and the hammer spring finally gave way and snapped. I was told up and down that the wilson combat reduced power spring set for N/K/L frames would work. Well it doesn't...spring is too short and much different looking. Can't even get the hammer cocked fully back with it in. Where do I get the right spring??! What model do I actually search for?? I'm including a picture of the broken spring and the wilson combat one for reference.

Top spring is the broken one that was in it, the bottom is the wilson combat one.

You might post something in the gunsmithing area. Some of the denizens there have old parts they will sell, or provide possible sources. Making one up from scratch would be no trick for the classic old-time gunsmiths, but unfortunately there aren't many of those guys around. From the pictures, it appears there is no easy way to modify the Wilson spring to a form that will work in your revolver.

Wow that is mighty kind of you Muley! Yes its a .38 pre model 10 I believe. It was my great grandfathers. He bought it in 1912. pic of gun to follow :)

That's a great looking piece! If the one you get from Muley Gil doesn't fit let me know I have several springs accumulated.

Thanks!!! This gun is one of my favorites. It has seen 3 different service stints with PD. Great grandpa in ND carried it first. It was initally nickel plated but was blued and cut down by the LAPD armorer when my grandpas brother carried it for under cover work. My grandpa then carried it for years. Its a strong shooter still (i was grouping quarter sized groups at 7-8 yds)

So for my personal knowledge what model do I actually search for on lets say Numrich? I loaded up the S&W parts page and theres so many options...and unless I'm missing something I didn't see a category for this particular gun.
