Hand ejector 1917

Hi. I bought a 1917 model that the top strap is not plain as see in the picture attached. Is that normal in that model? Also, was it common to cut the front sight like in Colt's? Mine is a military one. Thanks a lot.

I'm by no means an expert, but I do know that the front sight mod was common back in the day. The top strap treatment is definitely aftermarket. Looks like maybe someone wanted to eliminate glare so your gun may have been used for Target shooting.

Your gun has been refinished because the hammer and Trigger have been blued. Also the bright Bluing it's not typical of the military guns. I don't see a trademark stamp so it's unlikely that the gun was a commercial model. Also, those beautiful grips are from the 1930s

Welcome to the forum.

You have a 'dolled up' 1917 to make a great shooter. It's also been re-blued and has replacement Commercial stocks from the 1930s. They are worth almost as much as the gun in its non-original condition.
