I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. Being a long time S&W fan, I have to say that this is a fine place and I've learned a lot from the discussions.

I recently bought a S&W .38 spl Model of 1905 Hand Ejector. The pistol appears to be professionally rust re-blued. The grips are not original to the gun. Serial number on the butt is C 849XX. Can anyone tell me when the gun was made? Also, is the "C" prefix part of the serial number or some special designation.

Thank you in advance. Photos below:

Curious grips for this gun - they are from the 1910 - 1920 period. The gun
is post-WW2, probably about early 1950's. That hammer is the classic fish-hook style,
correct for the gun. And yes, the C is part of the serial number.

Mr. Priwer, thank you for your quick reply. I will look for some correct grips for the gun.

I'd sure save the grips that are on the gun; most of the guys here who are in to K frames are always on the hunt for nice ones!

I will save them. Hope to find a nice Hand Ejector of the proper period soon so maybe I can use the grips on it if it needs them.
